Despite District Finish, Lady Cardinals Complete Successful Soccer Season

Posted

Clinton High School girls soccer finished the season with an overall record of 16-10 and were the MSHSAA Class 2 District 5 runner-up after a close 2-0 loss to Logan-Rogersville in the championship game.
The Lady Cardinals set the school record for most wins (16) in a season, most shutouts (14) in a season, and goals allowed (25) in a season.
An interview with Lady Cardinals head coach Zach Adams is below:
OS: Tell me about your season; the good and the bad.
ZA: We learned that we can compete with anyone. This year, we only had one loss where we lost by more than two goals and that was early in the season. We lost to conference champions, Pleasant Hill, in double overtime. We ended up finishing third in the conference. We hope to continue to improve in conference and hopefully return to the district championship again next year.
OS: Talk about your outgoing seniors. Will you have a solid team next year as so many went out.
ZA: We have five seniors who graduated. They were great leaders for our team and a big part of the back line. They will be missed. Thankfully, we have 14 girls who received varsity playing time this year that will hopefully be returning to us again next year.
OS: Are you looking to bring the same assistant coaches back next year?
ZA: Coach Eversole is planning on coming back as an assistant again next year.
OS: Tell me about how hard the kids worked this season.
ZA: The girls worked hard this year and we were able to set many records on the field. They also worked hard in the classroom as many will be receiving Academic All-Conference awards.
OS: Tell me about your managers.
ZA: We had three managers this year: Isaac Duncan, Maddax Nicholson, and Landon Robinson. They are in charge of many tasks such as filling water bottles, picking up cones, helping warm up our goalkeepers, keeping stats and being ball boys for home games and tournaments. They did a great job and as they are all freshmen, hoping to have them as managers for a few more years.
OS: Are you excited to see Kevin LaFavor come back next year as AD?
ZA: I had the pleasure of working alongside LaFavor when he was the football coach. We worked well together as we had to share the turf field in the summer and fall and I am excited to have him back as the AD.
