Have I Got A Line For You!

Say it isn’t so Joe! The President is in hot water over classified documents that were stored at a D.C. office and some next to his Corvette in the garage. Surprised he didn’t have an electric vehicle sitting there. I thought Corvette’s were gas guzzling, carbon spewing air polluting cars. Where is the televised FBI raid? President Biden says these items were “misplaced” and has no idea how they got there. Bet every President has had classified documents at their property once they left office, we just didn’t hear about it until President Trump. Not that it’s proper or legal, just that it happens. The difference is that President Biden had these after leaving as VP. If an ordinary Federal employee was found to be mishandling classified material in this manner, they’d go to jail or be fined. As always, there’s one set of laws applied to our politicians and another for us serfs. Read a report this morning that President Biden’s popularity is at an all time low. I’m looking forward to 2024 when were told that he’s still very popular in a number of important battleground states, including China, Ukraine, Somalia, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Nicaragua Canada and Iran.

Astronomers have discovered a new comet just in time for its closest approach to Earth. The Green Comet is expected late this month. We won’t get another glimpse of it for 50,000 years! This flyby will be rare because we’ll be able to see it without a telescope or binoculars. If aliens are studying us, perhaps they’ll get a kick out of humans standing outside to watch a rock fly past our planet.

This week we’ll move the Democrat office in Clinton to our new building on the square. We’ve occupied the current building since 1950. Packing things for the move, I thought about my Grandma, Kathleen Cecelia Joanne Kelly White. She was the backbone of this family and the newspapers. She came to work every day and in her mid 80’s said she was “Going to turn it over to the young folks.” She told Aunt Jane the reason she retired was that “Nobody paid any attention to her anymore.” That wasn’t exactly true. When Grandma White spoke, you listened, like it or not. Her body may have aged, but her mind was sharp until she had a stroke or two. She worked hard on the Democrat and the Enterprise and wasn’t afraid to do anything to make them better. Grandma was a character and I miss hearing her and my Dad declaim the vagaries of the human race, particularly family members and politicians. Auch due lieber. I miss Grandma and it goes without saying that I miss Grandpa White too. Enough of this, but if it hadn’t been for Grandma’s dedication and business acumen I wouldn’t be sitting at this desk today. Come to think of it, I might be lolling in the Tirolean Alps.
