Lady Cardinals Make History

Posted

What does that mean?
Well, let me tell you. I have tried to be a good historian for most of the Cardinal sports programs. Soccer started in 2000-01 so the history is fairly current.
What did the 2022 team do? A lot is the short answer.
1) They won the most games with 14. The 2014 team won 12 games.
2) The 2022 team was the first team to have a winning season (14-11). The 2014, 2015 teams were close.
3) The 2022 team scored the most goals with 75. The 2021 squad held the record briefly with 74.
4) The 22’s also reset the record for best GD (goal differential). Their GD was +25. Last year the 2021 team was the first to have a positive GD with +20. In other words we are scoring more than our opponents. The best we did in the past was a -2 in 2012. The seniors this year had a Covid ‘skip’ year. But if you average their wins per season they beat out the 2017 seniors by average. The 22’s won 10.66 per year; the 2017 group won 42 games or 10.55 per year. It should (or could) go up next year.
5) The 22’s defense was a tough group. They got 11 shutouts, setting a school record. The 2007 team had the previous high with nine. Other trivia, Zach Adams was the ninth girls’ coach and the second alumni to coach the Cardinals. On another historical note, our research shows that this is the first year the Lady Cardinals beat the Bolivar Liberators.
6) This may be the first time a Lady Card soccer team had four players score in double figures: Kinzlie Hager 19, Skyte Wilson 18, Kylie Williamson 15 and Mercedez Brown with 11.

Congrats to the 2022 Cards! Can’t wait till next year!
