Raffle Raises Funds For Animal Shelter

Former Clinton mayor Sam Gibbons was the lucky winner of the Clinton Animal Shelter’s raffle prize, a portrait of his pet by award-winning artist Susan Sanders.
But the real winners are the animals that the shelter cares for.
The drawing took place Jan. 19 at the board meeting of CARE at the Rotary Building. The raffle raised a total of $2,200, according to Laura Himes, treasurer of the Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor (CARE). Every $10 donated to the shelter in the last several months entitled the giver to a ticket in the raffle.
“We had some bigger donations,” Himes said.
CARE administers the shelter, at 1307 N. Washington St., which is is currently caring for around 100 animals, said Effie Hubbard, CARE board president.
“We have 30 dogs, with 10 more dogs in foster care, and around 70 cats,” Hubbard said. “We’re cat rich.”
C.A.R.E. contracts with the city of Clinton to operate the no-kill shelter, accepting animals from the city animal control officer. For more information, go to the Clinton Animal Shelter Facebook or the Clinton Animal Shelter (MO) website.
