Friends and supporters of the State Fair Community College Athletic Department can participate in the 12th annual State Fair Community College Golf Tournament benefiting athletic scholarships. The event will take place on Monday, July 24 at the Sedalia Country Club. The three-person scramble will cost $120 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, 1 mulligan per person per 18, and lunch. The golf tournament will also include a live auction, which will start 45 minutes after the afternoon round is finished.
Participants will have a choice of a morning or afternoon tee time. The morning group will tee off at 8 a.m., followed by the afternoon group at 2 p.m. The prizes for the golf tournament will be Sedalia Country Club Pro Shop credit.
The tournament will be divided into four flights, with the top four places in each flight winning pro shop credit, based on a full field.
There are also numerous sponsorship opportunities available for businesses and individuals to support the event. Businesses can be the Title Sponsor of the event which costs $2,000 and includes signage on the first hole and three team entries into the tournament.
The Putting Clock sponsorship is $1,000, which includes signage on the 10th hole and one team entry into the tournament. The Driving Range sponsorship costs $750 and includes signage on the driving range and one team entry into the tournament. The Beverage Cart sponsorship costs $500 and includes signage on the beverage cart. Businesses and individuals can also purchase hole sponsorships which cost $150 and includes signage on the tee box.
Individual contributions in any amount are welcomed and appreciated. Please send completed sponsorship forms and payments to Michele Rupard, SFCC Softball Head Coach at 3201 W. 16th St., Sedalia, MO 65301. Checks must be made payable to the SFCC Foundation. Individuals with questions should call SFCC Athletics at (660)596-7440.
The proceeds from the event will go toward athletic scholarships. The men and women’s soccer teams’ scholarship is the Mike Bryson Memorial Scholarship. The women’s basketball team scholarship is the Bob Oehrke Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship for the men’s basketball team is the Kent Gwaltney Memorial Scholarship. The baseball team’s scholarship is the Ross Dey Memorial Scholarship and the softball team’s scholarship is the Mandy Thomas Memorial Scholarship. There will also be a track and field and cross country scholarship, shooting sports scholarship, esports scholarship and one for the men’s and women’s golf programs. SFCC athletics will also have a scholarship that will be used for all sports.
“I would say that half of our softball student-athletes on scholarships comes from the golf tournament proceeds,” said Rupard. This event is huge for our softball program as well as our other athletic programs. It provides extra scholarship money that allows our coaches to recruit student-athletes that they wouldn’t normally be able to fit into their scholarship budget. We really appreciate all the support that we receive from our community.”
There will be live and silent auctions again this year. These auctions will give supporters the opportunity to bid on items and the proceeds will be used to support the scholarships. Please contact SFCC Athletics if you have an item or items that you would like to donate to either auction.
“We will still have autographed sports memorabilia in the silent auction,” said Rupard. “In the live auction, one of the items we are going to auction off is a round of golf with State Fair Community College Athletic Director Darren Pannier.”
Golf tournament entry forms should be returned to Loel Fischer at the Sedalia Country Club. The address is 5074 Highway Y, Sedalia, MO 65301. Checks should be made payable to the SFCC Foundation. Online registration is available at www.sfccmoroadrunners.com/support/2023_Golf_Tournament.
