Windsor Greyhounds Roll

First round District games are always interesting. You always want the contest to be meaningful. Can a 7 seed beat a 2 seed? The answer is, not too often. So, on Friday, Oct. 29 the undefeated reigning State Champs, the Windsor Greyhounds, beat the 1-8 Sherwood Marsksmen 50-6. Yes, it was predictable. The Hounds scored on their first five possessions making the score 38-0 at the half. The Hounds added TDs in the third and fourth quarters to make the final score 50-6. Clearly the Marksmen could not contain the speed of the Hounds or match them on the line of scrimmage but the Marksmen did show some offensive speed of their own with sophomore #27 Lane Doll getting most of the carries. The Marksmen punted their first two possessions but sustained an impressive long drive on their third possession only to give the ball up on downs on the Greyhound two yard line. Both teams emphasized their running games, the Hounds on sweeps and the Marksmen running off tackle. The very young Marksmen team finished their season but hopefully with some positives to hang on to for next fall. The Marksmen had only two seniors, so a lot of underclassmen got varsity experience. Sherwood like some other area programs are low on numbers. They only had 18 players dressed for the Windsor game. The Marksmen are led by second year coach Paul Carney.
The speedy Windsor Greyhounds will now move on to face the 8-2 #3 seed Adrian Blackhawks. Adrian beat Midway in their first round District game 44-0. Clearly this ‘Hounds vs Hawks’ should be a great matchup. The Windsor Hounds, led by eight seniors, are coached by Jake Vancill.
