Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Tucker and Mason rang the church bell to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Our prayer list includes: Sondra Short, Jerry Reed, Marty Kampe, Johnny Cooper and Dave Burson; the war in Israel and Ukraine, our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.

Savannah and Tucker lit the altar candles and Tucker served as usher. Steve Siercks expressed his joy of seeing an eagle on the way here today. Linda Hawkins thanked Jeremy Reed for his help with yard work this week and Sue Lesmeister thanked Dalton Conner for his help with yard work. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church we try to have a little fun as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience.
Today Rev. Short’s message was about the history and meaning of the 23 Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer, and how they add meaning to our lives today. We are pleased to have him present a new and exciting view of the scriptures.

Drakes Chapel UMC
This the 4th Sunday of Easter, we welcomed one another and prepared our hearts and minds to receive Pastor Margie’s message all about love. We listened intently to her words from 1st John 3: 16-24. “Children of God” that is who we are. Do we obey our Father and boldly proclaim Him? Do we love others as He loves us? Pretty pointed questions. As Christ followers we know the answers but do we show up for Him like He did for us?
Pastor Margie’s sermon was entitled” What’s Love Got to Do With It?” Love has everything to do with it. That is what our Lord commanded us to do. Love our brothers and sisters. How are we doing with that? Easier for some than others. We must learn to put hate and prejudice aside. Our Lord and Savior loves us all. As the song proclaims “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” That’s everyone! Those who look different from us, talk differently, the rich and dirt poor alike.
Our church leaders met last Sunday addressing church business new and old. Drake’s Chapel has adopted the Simple Structure process and found it will be a better way for us to do business going forward.
As in most churches, music speaks to us and the words we sing gives glory to Our Lord. We can feel His is presence when we raise our voices to Heaven. Come join us in song and feel the spirit that makes Drake’s special. Whether in person or on Facebook Live our worship begins each Sunday at 9:00. We are located 5 miles east of Clinton off Hwy 52. We hope you will remember to share God’s love with everyone you meet this week.

First Baptist
On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered his 2nd message in the series, ‘Jesus Calls’, titled Called to Live Surrendered”. Jesus not only says “Believe in Me”, but He also says “Follow Me”. He calls us to deny ourselves and to take up our cross. Pastor Pat described three ways we may fully follow Jesus. First, we are to deny self and surrender by saying no to ourselves and saying yes to Christ. Even the Bible recognizes that denying self is a struggle between our sinful flesh and the Holy Spirit within us. Second, we are to take up our cross. This means we should follow God’s will, rather than our own. Third, we must follow Jesus. When we obey Him, He transforms us. Jesus has never saved a life He didn’t change. His grace is free, and He calls us to be a living sacrifice. When we live a surrendered life, we will not waste what He has loaned us to invest. When we recognize that all we have is His, we begin to become more like Him. Only what is done in Christ will last, so we should work to align our priorities with His. Everything we have in this life doesn’t matter if we lose our soul. Everyone is invited to come, no matter what they’ve done, and He will enable us to follow Him. Either we are His or He wants us to be His. The more we surrender to Him, the more like Him we become.

What a nice day as we gathered at 10:30 a.m. for worship service. Clint Keeney rang the church bell.
Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Carolyn Kelsay on her birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from 1Peter 2: 1-25. This passage reminds all believers that we are called to be an example for Christ, to abide in Him, and to follow His words. Believers are called to submit to God working in our lives and to proclaim His excellence. Believers are called to submit to purity, good works, and proclaim the Gospel. As Christians we are also called to submit to all authority, government, and use our freedom to serve God. We are to honor everyone whether a boss or a servant and be grateful to them. We can absolutely do all things with Christ who gives us strength.
Have a blessed week.

Valley Center United
We are the embodiment of Christ, making real the love, grace and presence of the holy Spirit.
We are an open and affirming church that welcomes all to come and worship with us on Sundays morning at 9 am.
On May 19th, Valley Center will be having our worship service outside with the beautiful view of our prairie and with the sounds of nature! It will be a wonderful morning on top of the hill! We send our love to a dear church member who will be having surgery this week.
We continue to pray for peace in the middle east and the Ukraine. We pray for the families who everyday experience unimaginable atrocities and whose lives will never be the same.
Taryn and Dylan Wirsig warmly welcomed each of us this morning as we came to church! Isaac Neuenschwander lit the altar candles and the congregation sang, “When I survey the Wondrous Cross” to begin our worship services.
To embody Christ into our lives is in a sense to live it, to breathe it and to become good shepherds and servants. Embodiment of God’s will makes us who we are, the Body of Christ. As followers of Jesus, we are reminded of the significance of leading creative lives as we bring his joy and love to others.
God lives in each of us. He gives us hope, grace and our salvation. We are connected. Everything God does is in love. It’s all about love.
May we celebrate it and live it every day as we express our faith and serve God.
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives: and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.
