Calhoun Community Church
Greetings from Calhoun Community Church where everyone is somebody and Jesus Christ is Lord. We are located on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square. We are a MultiDenominational congregation and gather for pre-church food and fellowship at 9:30 a.m. This is a special time for visiting, signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry, and welcoming guests for worship. Mr. Tom rang the church bell at 9:45 a.m. to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Our prayer list includes Stan and Elaine Egbert, Joe Goodrich, Derek Lowe, Mike Hanson, Gerald Barrow, Taylie Stauber, Grayson Lowe, Sondra Short, Dave and LaDawn Burson, Amber, Patrick, and Brecklynn Dittmer. We continue to pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily.
Joys to celebrate: What a beautiful early spring day to gather and praise the Lord. Ms. Carol brought M & M cookies for our fellowship time, we extend our Thanks. Tom Colwell and Steve Siercks lit the altar candles and Kynslee and Dalton Conner served as ushers collecting the offering. Shirley Cardwell, Wes Conner and Jeremy Reed were recognized for having Birthdays this week and wishes for many more. All were pleased to have Debbie Joy and Tawyna Conner back from vacationing in the Bahamas and Florida. Patty Dump noted that she had spring flowers coming up in her yard. Karrie Reed was pleased to report the Stockdale family, much better this week. The first Sunday of the month is Communion Sunday at Calhoun Community Church, today Tom and Steve served Communion and Pastor Reed marked our foreheads with ashes, a sign of repentance, usually preformed on Ash Wednesday. Jeremy Reed was absent today attending his son Jackson and Tucker McNeely’s wrestling match. Jeremy is our Tek-man so our hymns were sung acappella. We had a church full so our music turned out fine. RememberDaylight Savings time begins next Sunday.
We are a country church where country folk gather to praise the Lord and socialize one with another. We are a diverse group and invite you to be our guest any Sunday for worship, we promise you will receive a blessing for your effort. Come dressed as you are comfortable and bring the children for Sunday School during the service.

In this powerful exploration of Genesis 3, we dive deep into the fall of humanity and its consequences. But amidst the judgment, we discover an incredible thread of God’s mercy and grace. The passage reveals how sin entered the world, disrupting the harmony between God and His creation. Yet, even in this darkest moment, we see the first glimpse of hope - the proto-evangelium, or first gospel. God’s promise of a future redeemer born of woman who would crush the serpent’s head foreshadows Christ’s ultimate victory over evil. As we reflect on Adam and Eve’s story, we’re reminded of our own struggles with sin and the importance of taking responsibility for our actions. The consequences of sin - pain in childbirth, difficulty in work, and death - are balanced by God’s compassion in clothing Adam and Eve, symbolizing His desire to cover our shame and restore us. This narrative challenges us to confront our own shortcomings while embracing the hope of redemption that God offers through Jesus Christ.

Can you hear Christ’s call? As disciples, we should listen for His voice. We are called by Him to love and heal the broken hearted. Go out into the world and be a blessing to others. On Sunday morning, Dr. David Maggi was with us and delivered a message based on Ephesians 4: 17 – 20; 31, 32. The title of his message was “The Knockout Punch”. Sarah Hall on clarinet and Gay Smith on piano brought us the anthem “America the Beautiful” arranged by Buryl Red.
March 5th will be Ash Wednesday. We will have a service at 5:30 pm. Make plans to attend.
The Presbyterian Women will meet on Friday at 1:00 pm (please note the time change). Amanda Roe from H.O.P.E. Project will be the guest speaker, followed by fellowship time and the regular meeting and Bible Study. All women of the church are invited to attend.

All Lutherans believe and accept the doctrines of the Lutheran Church. The church’s doctrines and beliefs are specific and written down for all to see and understand. There is no ambiguity. They are not optional.
“For example, faith and salvation are the work of God alone. No one can “decide to follow Jesus” through their own intellect or reason. No way. No how. Can’t happen. It’s impossible. Do you have faith in Jesus? Praise God, for it is His work alone that you do. You were dead in your tresspasses and sin and had no part in your salvation. (Eph. 2:1-10).
Where is God and his gifts of faith and salvation most commonly found? In church! It’s in church where the Word of God is rightly proclaimed, and the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are rightly administered. Trinity Lutheran in Clinton, MO is such a church. Come to church this Sunday. The Holy Spirit has promised to meet you there to create and strengthen your faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Sunshine warmed our hearts as we gathered to worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
In Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon, he references different passages that show what Baptism is. In Matthew 28: 19-20 it states that Baptism is a command to and for all believers as a sign of our faith. In Romans 6: 1-4, Baptism is a symbol and a sign of our faith in Christ: Death, burial, and resurrection. In Baptism we bury our old selves and rise up washed clean from our sins and renewed in life with Christ.
Baptism is a witness to our commitment to the church and world. Baptism brings everyone together into the church as one body worshiping Christ our Savior. Have a blessed week.

“Come O Fount of every Blessing, Tune My Heart to Sing Thy Grace.”
We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning at 9 am. We pray for those who are in need of his healing hands. We pray for our churches, communities and for this world. We pray for the people of the Ukraine as they fight for democracy.
Lent services will be on Wednesday, March 5th, at 6 pm. Donna Hughes will lead us in the scripture reading and there will be a simple meal.
We say it in our prayers and we say it every time we come to church, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors”. It is a very clear message, we are to simply love and forgive everyone as God does us.
As we travel through life, we learn from those around us. Many of our lessons come from something someone said or even from their reactions. These lessons may have come from teachers, parents, preachers or friends. They can also come from people that you don’t even know. They can be good or bad. Good lessons come from people showing kindness, tenderness and forgiveness. But other times they may not be so good like when we see hate, bitterness or malice that is shown or acted out against others.
It is our choice to choose what we listen to and how it all makes us feel. It is very important how we react to all of these things.
Even though life can sometimes drag us down, we need to take the good from it and fill our thoughts with love and kindness for all we meet. We need to forgive others and show that we are truly God’s children. We need to pay attention, listen to that knock that we hear and to always end each day with something positive that we have learned. God’s ability to love and forgive us is greater than all of our sins.
And God said, “This is my Son, listen to him.”
