Clinton City Council Gets Airport Update

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 6:00 pm, council members Gene Henry, Roger House, Cameron Jackson, Austin Jones, Gary Mount, Shelly Nelson, Greg Shannon and Stacia Wilson convened for the City of Clinton’s regularly scheduled meeting, and the following topics were discussed.
The weekly update from the greater Clinton area Chamber of Commerce was presented by Director David Lee, Joyce Carr and Mark Dawson.
They wanted to thank Amber Hansen for her 2024 presidency of the chamber. They are welcoming Tonya Hansen as their new 2025 chamber president. The greater Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce also wanted to make a special shout-out to Tyler Bien. Bien thanked the chamber of commerce, on behalf of the Tractor Supply Company here in Clinton for helping them spread the word on their stock with their emergency items for the snowstorm. The Chamber of Commerce also wanted to inform the people of Clinton that they are having their first luncheon of 2025. It will be held on February 21 at the Clinton Elks Lodge banquet room starting at 11:30 am until 1:00 pm. Their guests will be Brittany Beazley, the director of sales for the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She will be instructing the chamber members on the Missouri chamber plan as well as how it could save money regarding health insurance for you and your employees. They will also have Compass Health network, doing trauma 101 training for the workforce, as well as an update from the childcare committee. Dawson will also be giving updates as the economic development director. Followed by a question and answer session, there will also be time to speak individually. The cost for the luncheon will be $25 for non-members and $15 for members. Tickets are on sale now at the chamber office. They ask you to keep in mind that seating will be limited.
Other topics presented included: the CFD is requesting approval to accept an MOU with GVMH to serve as a consortium member for their community paramedic program. This request was approved.
The second request of the meeting was to declare police car number #3 as surplus. This request was also approved.
Matt Wray has also put in a request for closing Clinton Square for the monthly summer cruise night on the second Saturday of each month from May to October.
Regarding the snowstorm, the help provided is as follows: materials that were used were approximately 100 tons of salt, four large plows, and two flatbeds. A 2002 large truck went down and is being repaired, currently. It will be replaced by a new truck on order. The roads were treated and plowed for eight days by six staff employees plus a superintendent.
There has been a special waste disposal service agreement: the agreement has been submitted. The city of Clinton will have a backup plan for the disposal of bio-solids during a construction project.
There will be a gear reducer rebuild: the city administrator approved the rebuild quote.
Ace pipe: CIPP liner has been installed in three segments. They will continue with the remainder of the project.
On 1819 North Gaines Dr.: there was a blockage in a line that was cleared by ace pipe. CCTV footage showed the line to be heavily cracked as well as filled with many tree roots.
On 1/7/2025 project West: A builder is looking to acquire land with the potential for a small-scale community developing small-scale homes to help with the force housing program.
1/14/2025 Project Cup: an investor is taking into consideration a produce-related store for the downtown Clinton area. There’s a possibility for this project in the late second or early third quarter of 2025.
1/16/2025 Project chemical coatings – GSLI: the manufacturing of this project requires a 20,000+ square foot facility. This has the possibility of creating 25–50 jobs. This company has been in business for over 50 years.
Joel Long from the Airport Association, discussed the airport terminal building. Long presented the success of the project. He spoke on how the US Geological Research Department is using Canadian equipment as there is no longer American equipment available to do research. The airport contracted out one of the hangers. He spoke on how the airport is running smoothly and their sales are up this year.
