Cole Camp Allows Victory To Slip Away In Fourth Quarter

The old timers will remember the Wide World of Sports television program that opened with the 'Thrill of Victory and The Agony of Defeat' theme.

Cole Camp was on the verge of their first victory of the season after six defeats on Friday night at Midway. Victory was in the air and the taste was sweet.

The Bluebirds headed into the fourth quarter, ahead 14-6. Midway scored at the 8:35 mark on an 18-yard pass play and with the PAT, tied the game at 14-14.

After a Cole Camp punt went out of bounds at the 36, Midway scored again on the first play from scrimmage on a 64-yard ramble to the endzone at the 7:15 mark. The PAT made it 22-14.

A nine play Cole Camp drive stalled and Midway milked the clock for the win.

Bluebirds Grant Rodriguez scored in the first quarter on a 12-yard run and again in the third from 13 yards out. He made the PAT and it was 8-6 after one.

Clayton Archambault made a tackle on the 6 to stop the Midway PAT attempt.

Rodriguez rushed 28 times for 117 yards and was 3 for 12 passing for 9 yards.

Colton Dieckman was on the receiving end of all 3 catches for 3 for 9 receiving.

Kolton Phillips ran for 31 yards on 8 attempts.

Next up for Cole Camp is their much awaited matchup at home with long time rival Lincoln. Throw the records out as they don't seem to matter when these two programs lock horns.

Lincoln has fought injuries all year and the Bluebirds have battled inexperience. Both have less players than they would like. Flip a coin and stay tuned to the BCE for all the action next week.

The game will kickoff at 7:00 PM in Cole Camp.
