Family members gathered at sister Julie’s on Christmas Eve. Dinner went without a hitch and was followed by a gift exchange and Midnight Mass. I struggled to stay awake. Must have been too much food….or do you suppose it was the wine? Among gifts were two antique nickels from the U.S. Mint. One shows Lewis and Clark on a keel boat. The other shows clasped hands of friendship between the U.S. government and the Indians, with a tomahawk crossed by a peace pipe. I bet the Indians didn’t appreciate these coins. Their lands were taken away and life on the reservation began, with folks living in poverty. Americans are by and large a good and generous people. We just didn’t do such a hotshot job with those who settled here before we did. I wonder if someone will run us off our land someday?

We’re in the middle of remodeling the office in Warsaw and Mrs. Adair ran across a box of things that once adorned the walls. One was a poster that said, “Please, do not shoot the wounded.” It was a message to anyone who walked by Phronsie’s desk. A business card for a physic along with cartoons that were published when Lorena Bobbitt sprang into action. Also in the box was a large color photograph of fireworks over Truman Dam, an apt description of this place at times, especially on Tuesdays. A tabloid telling how Abe Lincoln was revived for 45 seconds, opened his eyes and asked, “Gentleman, where am I?” A plaque that reads, “Getting anything done around here is like mating elephants. It’s done on a high level, accomplished with a great deal of roaring and screaming and takes two years to get results.” This would probably apply to many offices.

Well, well, well. The Colorado Supreme Court kicked The Donald off their state’s primary ballot. UNBELIEVABLE! He hasn’t been convicted of ANYTHING. If this isn’t election interference, what do you call it? President Trump isn’t the one who should be charged. Isn’t it amazing that everything they’re charging him with, is exactly what they’re doing? None of this is going to end well for anybody. None of it is good for our country. Meanwhile, I saw the movie Napoleon and the charges against the officials being executed were “Depleting the treasury and failing to secure the nation’s borders.” Brings to mind our current government, doesn’t it?

Ach du lieber, I’m wondering all around Gooch’s barn here. A new year will open its door on Monday. Whether we’ll like what it brings, who knows. Best take it with a grain of salt and a sense of humor. Have an exceptionally splendid day Old Buddy.
