The Henry County Library in Clinton is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a book signing session for local author Randy Linss on Saturday, March 22nd, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the library gallery.
About Randy Linss: A retired Midwestern baby boomer, Randy Linss was raised in the picturesque small-town German community of Cole Camp, Missouri - a town of just under 1,000 friends and relatives.
Much of his adult working years were spent in various free-spirited, entrepreneurial adventures which took him on extensive excursions throughout the upper Midwest and Tennessee Smokey Mountain regions.
Those years of growing up in a “Mayberry-type setting, “ as well as the experiences from his travels, have supplied Linss with much of the material he writes in his later years.
While always a writer, he never envisioned his works would be someday part of the twelve books he has penned. Linss is also the writer of a daily Facebook blog called “My Window To The World,” which became the title of his first book.
He credits his friends, the readers of his blog, with the encouragement that ultimately led to the release of his books which are largely based on the memories of growing up during the 1960s in the Midwest.
Although many of his stories are based on his hometown of Cole Camp, his stories are easily relatable to anyone’s recollections of their own upbringing, no matter where it might have been.
Although Linss claims to have traveled many rough and rocky roads while on his life’s journey, the darker times are where he credits much of his ultimate growth. Coupled with a love of creative short story writing, his third book, “The Long and Short Of It” stems from those troubled years. He calls that book his personal favorite, as it holds such special meaning to him.
In his retirement years, Linss lives in Clinton, Missouri, on the shores of Truman Lake, with his partner, Beverly where they live a quiet life. He enjoys cooking, reading, bicycle riding, nature, and following his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
About Randy’s Books: Randy will be featuring his recently published book, Book of Dreams : Rhymes Without Reason, at the session as well as previous works including Larger Than Life : The Legends, My Window To the World, Paperback Writer : All My Best, and The Long & Short of It : A Collection of Short Stories From a Darker Time. Each will be available for purchasing and autographing. Payment by cash, check, credit/debit cards (excluding American Express) will be accepted.
Book of Dreams : Rhymes Without Reason ($14.95): Dreams are fascinating things. Many people look deeply into their meanings to enjoy them as entertainment. During my lifetime, I’ve enjoyed the ability to enjoy some fantastically bizarre dreams - some of which I can remember long enough after waking to write them down. The stories included in the pages of this book are some of those. In addition, I’ve included a section of ten poems that I’ve dabbled at. If you try not to think too deeply about any perceived meaning behind these dreams, you can best enjoy them as intended. Newly updated with additional stories.
Larger Than Life : The Legends ($18.95): The small-town Midwestern German community of Cole Camp, Missouri, is richly steeped in its heritage. The town has been blessed with a long line of strong-willed and determined individuals who have each played their role in building and upholding the character of the community. This book is without doubt the most extensive look at the stories of many of the town’s most colorful and influential characters who walked the streets while contributing largely to the strength of the community and the upholding of its character. After reading this book, whether you’ve ever lived in Cole Camp or even heard of the town, you’ll have established a connection and affection for the picturesque little community.
My Window To the World ($18.95): Randy Linss takes a nostalgic look down Memory Lane in his first book, a 425-page collection of stories taken from his Facebook blog bearing the same name as the title of his book. He expresses his views about what it was like being raised in a small Midwestern German community in the 1960s. While his stories are based on experiences he remembers from Cole Camp, Missouri, these stories are easily translated to memories from any town across the country. Join the author as he writes about yesterday, today, and tomorrow!
Paperback Writer : All My Best ($14.95): If I were a musical artist, this would be my “Greatest Hits” album. But, as a writer, this is a collection of some of my best short stories, articles from my Facebook blog (My Window To The World), and editorial stories I’ve written for various newspapers over the years. I’ve chosen to not include any of my historical writings in the book, but rather make it more of a light-hearted, entertaining book that anyone can enjoy.
The Long & Short of It : A Collection of Short Stories From a Darker Time ($14.95): A collection of fictional short stories capturing the mood and mindset of a troubled and depressed mind. These are some of the author’s most compelling works. A must-read for creative short story lovers.
Please join the library in welcoming Randy as he shares his stories with the community. For more information contact the Henry County Library at (660)885-2612.
