Lady Cards Season Ends In District Championship

If you would've predicted that Lincoln's softball season would end in Warrenburg, then you would have been a prophet of sorts.

The championship of the district was to be played on Tuesday in Lincoln, then it was moved to Wednesday, but later in the day it was moved to Warrenburg because of the recent storms and the possibility of more rain heading towards the Lincoln confines.

In any event, third seed Lincoln, which came off a tremendous victory over second seed Sweet Springs on Monday, 10-9 lost to the top team in Class 1 in the Northwest (Hughesville) Lady Mustangs, 13-3 in six innings.

Lincoln scored in the first but it was short lived as Northwest tallied 3 runs in their half and 2 in the second and 1 in the fourth for a 6-1 lead. Lincoln made a short comeback with 2 in their sixth but Northwest attained the 10 run rule after 5 with a 7 run explosion in the sixth frame.

Northwest's Gabriella Mayer had a home run, a single and a double scoring three runs in a 3 for 4 day.

Lady Cards junior Braylin Paxton took the loss, giving up 8 earned runs, striking out 6 and walking 6. Five Lincoln errors didn't help matters.

Lexi Dulaban, Lincoln's catcher, finished her career going 2 for 3 and drove in 1 run. Senior first baseman Courtney Stephens went 1 for 2. Both of these girls will be missed next year.

Lincoln ended their season at 13-9. The Benton County Enterprise will wrap up the Lincoln season next week.
