Lincoln Hosts 4th Of July Celebration At Big City Park

Posted

In accordance with a long running tradition, Lincoln held its spectacular fireworks show on the traditional 4th of July but held off the rest of the celebration until Saturday, July 6 in the big City Park, east of the 65 corridor.

The day kicked off with the traditional Baby Show in the shelter house. Each age group competed, and the first place winners in each grouping faced off for the Overall winner. Taking Overall winner bragging rights home was 6-week old Machense Dill, daughter of Buddy and Caitlin Dill. The overall winner received a photo session package from AB Studio.

A duck pond and various other games were conducted for the younger sets by the Lincoln High School Band as a fund raiser, while some of the older kids competed in 3 on 3 basketball games.

Later in the day there was a Corn Hole Tournament on the court and Arm wrestling was the draw inside the shelter house. Participant’s ages ranged from kids to middle aged and even a few girls challenged the boys.

Various vendors were scattered around and I doubt even one attendee went home without indulging in a Craig’s Corn Dog. What’s a fair or a 4th of July celebration without a corn dog?

Later the beer garden opened with Brandon Ward playing back to back with the Evan Carter Band.

One Alumni Class, the Class of 1994, held a mini reunion at the Beer Garden and greatly enjoyed the get together.

All in all, Amy Biggerstaff put together a great old-fashion 4th of July that was enjoyed by all in attendance.
