Bobby D. Howard, 89, of Clinton, Missouri, formerly of Windsor, Mo., died Monday, June 3, 2024, at his home.
He was born January 22, 1935, in Climax Springs, Mo., the son of Floyd F. Howard and Freda Viola (Arnhold) Howard. On April 2, 1960, he married Peggy Bigler at the Christian Church in Calhoun, Mo. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2009.
Bobby served in the United States Army 1957 to 1959, stationed in Germany. Bobby worked at the International Shoe Factory in Windsor for several years. He then worked for the Lake City Ammunition Plant before starting a longtime career with General Motors in Kansas City, retiring in 1990. In retirement, he was a school bus driver for 13 years at the Windsor school district. He enjoyed deer and quail hunting and fishing. He and his brothers were competitive gardeners, each one trying to outgrow the other. Outings to country music shows and Branson family vacations were favorite family activities. He loved baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals. Playing cards, especially Pitch, was something he greatly enjoyed, never turning down an opportunity to play with friends. He was a member of Drakes Chapel United Methodist Church near Clinton.
Survivors include three children, Debbie Woirhaye (Brian), Kansas City, Mo., Darrell Howard, Windsor, Mo., and Cheryl Hayes (Chad), Windsor, Mo.; 6 granddaughters, Kelly Watkins (Adam), Nicole McWain (Nick), Mattea Barnes (Taylor), Delaney Howard, Danielle Scotten (Ben), and Baylee Hayes; 8 great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way; a sister, Joyce Ebeling, Warrensburg, Mo.; a brother, Carroll Howard (Linda), Sedalia, Mo.; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces; and a dear friend, Mavis Long. In addition to his wife Peggy, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Howard and his wife Wanda; and a brother-in-law, Bob Ebeling.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Pastor Margie Briggs officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends Monday before the service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Laurel Oak Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
