Recently, Clinton golf coach Thomas Collison was interviewed about end of year golf results, what he had to say about the season is below.
“CHS Golf started off the year with a tri with Harrisonville and Saint Michael ArchAngel at Hoots Hollow in Harrisonville," Collison said. "This was a great first test for the team, as they worked out the rough edges of their games. CHS beat Harrisonville by 15 strokes and narrowly lost to Saint Michael by 5 strokes."
The team then traveled to the Grain Valley Invite and put their skills up against the best golfers in Kansas City, MO and Kansas City KS. The team played well against their competition but failed to take home any trophies or medals that day.
Collison said, "It was a great experience for all the players. We then held our first match of the year at Meadow Lake Country Club with Oak Grove and Center. Once again the kids put on a great demonstration of golf defeating Oak Grove by 25 strokes and Center by 35 strokes. Making us 3-0 in Conference play."
The following week was brutal for the team.
"On Monday April 10, we played at the Smith-Cotton Classic at the Sedalia Country Club. The boys didn't play as well as they wanted to, James Peoples started off rough but battled back to shoot an 88, some of the best golf he has played all year. Each one of them continued to dig in and play the best they could."
On Wednesday, April 12, the team traveled to Lake Valley and played in the Laker Invitational.
Collison said, "This was a challenging course for the team. The team went up against absolutely the best golfers in the state of Missouri. The team was tired after two days of hard golf, and welcomed a little break."
The following week the team traveled to Warrensburg Hidden Pines Golf Club and played against the Warrensburg Tigers.
"The team won another Conference match beating the Tigers by 5 strokes 181-186, making us 4-0 in Conference play."
The team traveled to Pleasant Hill and played at The Rock against Pleasant Hill and Odessa.
"All the players played extremely well there, but Pleasant Hill proved to be too good and won by 20 strokes handing the Cards their first Conference loss of the year. P-Hill had a 141, Clinton 180, Odessa 210. This was a tough loss for us, but I felt really confident that we can improve and play better. Our next match was against Weaubleau, we played one day at Clinton Country Club and one day at Meadow Lake Country Club. The golfers on both teams had a great time both days. I hope to make this a much larger tournament in the years to come. I was very disappointed that only 1 school showed, but I have a great plan to get more teams here next year," Collison commented.
On May 1, the team played at the Conference Championships at Mules National Golf Course in Warrensburg.
"I was excited going into the play knowing that we had beat our competition in previous matches. However we did not get the strokes we needed to win and ended up placing 5th in the conference," Collison said.
The Class 3 District 3 championships were played in Cassville on May 8.
"The boys played some great golf considering the conditions that they played in. Hunter Bose shot an 84 and placed in the top 12 at District. James Peoples, and Nicholas Barnes both shot an 89 just missing the cut off of 86."
Clinton's Hunter Bose advanced to the MSHSAA State Championships May 15-16 at Meadow Lake Acres Golf Club in News Bloomfield.
The team finished 7th out of 16 teams scoring a 377 for the round.
