Cards Rumble Past Versailles At Homecoming 2023

Posted

The Clinton Cardinals didn't disappoint a nice Homecoming crowd last Friday night when they hosted the Versailles Tigers and treated the fans to a 27-22 win, improving their season record to 2-4.
After the game, we caught up with Cardinals head coach Todd Mowery.
OS: How did the guys perform as a team?
TM: This game said a lot about us as a team and how our culture is growing. We didn't start well and had to fight our way back. They very easily could have just laid down in the 4th quarter, but they didn't. They earned it.
OS: What outcome were you expecting before the game?
TM: I knew we were the better team. However, we did not start out that way. I think there was a little too much confidence going in. I was expecting us to be more dominant in the first half.
OS: How was the boy’s attitude going into the game?
TM: Attitudes were great all week long. We had a great week of practice and it was a very positive environment even when things weren't going our way. Ultimately, that's what won us the game.
OS: How was the HOCO crowd?
TM: The crowd was the best I've ever seen in Clinton. The energy was high and the stands were packed. It was awesome to see the support. Big props to the community and student body on making it a very memorable homecoming
OS: Anything else coach?
TM: The attitudes of our kids from June until now have completely flipped. This culture is changing. Although we don't always get the outcomes we want in regards to the score, we are getting to a new place within this team and that's going to start changing the outcomes in the future. It's not going to be overnight, but it's on its way.
