Calhoun UMC
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun United Methodist. We are pleased to gather in fellowship and love, to praise the Lord with church family and guests. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call the
“flock” to 10:00 Worship. Our service is live-streamed for face book.
We extend our Sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Helen Reynolds, Jim Bilbruck, and Gary Jones who passed into the arms of Jesus this week. Others on the prayer list are Macayla and Jaden Hawkins and baby Kehlani, John and Marty Lloyd, Sharon Miller, and the Burson family. We are asking for prayers for our church and congregation as we take a hard look at what God has in mind for us next. Just a reminder Lord, the wind continues to blow and we could use a nice gentle soaking rain.
Joys to celebrate: We were blessed with a good crowd for church this morning. Special music was “Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus on C.D. On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered his 11 th message from the Experiencing God series titled “Escaping the lure of the La-Z-Boy”. Pastor Pat used Phillipians 3 to describe how to continue our growth in our relationship with God. He began by describing the SAID (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demand) Principle as the effort or practice we put forth that grows us and makes us better. He went on to illustrate the ‘lure of the La-Z-Boy’, with a recliner on stage, as 1) stopping short of experiencing everything God desires to do in you, 2) settling for less than God wants to do through you, 3) reaching a certain level and then stop growing, and 4) drifting from intimacy with God. In order to escape this lure, we must refuse the lie that we’ve already arrived and press onward by focusing forward. When have you experienced God the most? While it is good to reflect, let us not look backwards too much, but look forward to the next time we experience Him. When is the last time you faced a crisis of faith? In what areas of your life have you not fully surrendered? We are asked to consider these questions to help us determine where we are in our walk with God. It all starts with knowing Jesus!

On Sunday we celebrated the continuing good news that we serve a risen savior. Break down any barriers of ignorance, stubbornness and fear from your heart. Look at Jesus as the savior he is, coming to give us all a new and abundant life. We are blessed so praise His name. Rev. Nancy continues on her sermon series “Asking for Directions” with the message this week titled 21st Century Pilgrimage. Scripture was Acts 10: 1 – 16 and 27 – 33. Rick Lingenfelter blessed us on the piano with the anthem “O Worship the King”.
The Presbyterian Women met on Friday, May 5 for their monthly meeting. Their book study for this year is titled “Celebrating Sabbath, Accepting God’s Gift of Rest and Delight”. This month’s lesson was “Sabbath and Community”. These dedicated women are the driving force behind the mission opportunities of the church. All ladies are welcome to attend.
A total of 82 deodorant sticks were delivered to the Samaritan Center. Thank you to all for the generosity. Keep watching to find out what the next collection for the Center will be.
The “Children in Africa” project is up and running. Sewers fashion adorable dresses and shorts for the children. We are blessed that so many use their skills for this worthwhile project. Everything you need to sew these clothing articles is available in the foyer. Examples are on display. Ask a Naomi Ruth Circle lady for answers to any questions.
Tai Chi classes continue here each Monday at 10:00 and 11:00 am and Wednesday at 10:00 am in our fellowship hall. Tai Chi helps strengthen your core and improve balance. Feel welcome to be a part of this group.

Mt. Calvary Apostolic Pentecostal
“Are You Straight With God?”
Amos 7:1. (KJV)
A Plumb Line:
Is a string with a metal weight at one end that, when suspended, points directly towards the earth’s centre of gravity and so is used to determine verticality, perpendicularity, the depth of water.
Like the plumb line points to the earth in a straight line, we should ask ourselves if we are straight with God.
Amo 7:7-8. (KJV)
God has set rules for his people. He put a plumb line on his people because of their wickedness. He could see the amount of wickedness they had. They were far from the foundation of where God wanted them to be.
Amos told the people he was not a prophet, but was called by God to tell them his prophecy.m
Galatians 1:6-9. (KJV)
The Galatians did not build on the foundation of the apostles. To pervert something is to divert what was intended to be.
It tells us in Galatians 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage.(KJV)
Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? (KJV)
Gal 5:1. (KJV)
Somebody bewitched the people for they did not build on God’s foundation. Don’t get off course and veer from God. Don’t allow people to entangle you in other things.
Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. (KJV)
Gal 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? (KJV)
It says in Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. (KJV)
Eph 2:19-22. (KJV)
God told us about the foundation in Isaiah and that there would be a chief cornerstone. We see in Ephesians that the chief cornerstone he spoke of is Jesus. The foundation the Galatians veer away from.
There are times when we veer from the plumb line in our lives and wander back to the “world” and bad habits.
Do not lose your connection to God. Don’t allow others to persuade you to use a different foundation than the one given to you by God. God Bless.

Mt. Zion UMC
Pastor David’s message. “Persistence” was prefaced with a New Testament reading from 1 Peter 2:2-10, and a Gospel reading from John 14:1-14. Winston Churchill once said: “Continuous effort—not strength or intelligence—is the key to unlocking our potential.”
Life is not a journey that will come easy so we must persevere to have success. Peter and Jesus are teaching us to persevere in our faith, for faith is the essence of our life as Christians. Peter used the language of building a stone structure, so our faith is to build a spiritual house. When we are building our spiritual houses, these building bricks or stones must be pleasing to the Lord. Let your temple—your body, mind, and soul—be purified and then we may offer spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus called us out of the darkness into His marvelous light that we may proclaim His mighty acts. God sends us the help we need through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. So, allow the Spirit to embolden your mind and body. And through persisting in this holiness, we may proclaim the Good News to others and be fit to stand in the presence of God. Amen!

Sunshine warmed our hearts as we gathered to worship the Lord.
Today, Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Mrs. Carolyn Kelsay on her birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Chad Pollett’s sermon was from John 8: 31-38. Jesus was speaking to those who believed he was the Messiah. Jesus said (“If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32) What was true then is still true today. Be a disciple and spread the truth of Jesus. Have a blessed week.

Valley Center United
I was glad when they said, “Let us go to the house of the Lord”.
Peg Neuenschwander and Karen Lasswell warmly welcomed all who came to worship in our church at the brow of the hill. Emily Neuenschwander lit the altar candles to begin our services.
We send our love and prayers to Mary Louise Chapman and her family for the passing of their daughter, mother, grandmother and sister, Karen Arnote. They mourn her loss, but celebrate the time that she blessed this world and all of whom she met along her life’s journey.
We continue our prayers for several church members as they heal from surgery or are facing some serious health issues. We pray for the families of the Ukraine in their fight for democracy.
All power and love that we experience and the joy and hope that fills our hearts, is the life that we get from Jesus. Jesus said to his followers, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Do not let your hearts be troubled, if you believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many mansions, I am going to prepare a place for you”.
Today these powerful words bring us much encouragement.
As believers, the path that we choose has demands that are given to us. They tell us what is expected and how to live our lives in faithful service.
There are times that some may be Christians in name only. Saying we are Christians and living as Christians are different.
Are we faithful to God’s word or do we just love the thought of being Christian?
How can we know the way? When we truly understand the meaning and trust the words that Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life” our path becomes clear. His promise that he will never leave us, gives us comfort and hope. It gives us the peace that passes all understanding and empowers us to serve others.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
