The Henry County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announces that on January 12, 2024, Airic Brauer, 20, Clinton, was found guilty by a jury of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.
Prosecuting Attorney LaChrisha Gray prosecuted the case on behalf of the State of Missouri. Brauer was represented by counsel.
The Prosecutor’s Office filed charges based on a July 2022 incident that occurred at Artesian Park in Clinton. Two young men, Mason Roskop and Mitchell Andrew Raines, were shot by the defendant and died of multiple gunshot wounds. The defendant was charged for the death of Mitchell Andrew Raines.
Brauer pled not guilty and requested a jury trial, which was conducted the week of January 8, 2024. More than one hundred Henry County citizens were summoned to appear for the jury selection process.
The parties presented evidence to the jury for four days. After deliberating, the jury returned a verdict of guilty of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. Voluntary manslaughter is a class B felony, which carries a range of punishment from five to fifteen years in prison. Sentencing is not yet set as a sentencing assessment report will need to be generated by Missouri Probation and Parole.
According to Prosecutor LaChrisha Gray, because Brauer was found guilty of armed criminal action, he will be required to serve at least three years in the Missouri Department of Corrections before being eligible for parole, but the total number of years will ultimately be determined by the court at sentencing.
