The Cole Camp R-1 School board held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 24. The Board approved the agenda with the addition of a presentation from FFA students who attended Washington Leadership Conference this past summer.
Under discussion items Dama Cooper showed the Board the changes that have been made and will be made to the school website. The Board also heard from two students who had attended the Washington Leadership Conference. During the open comment segment, staff member Darian Rusk, read a statement in regards to the current paid time off policy.
Under action items, the Board approved the brick sample for use on the new elementary wing, the Board manual as presented by Counsel, the adoption of the 2024-2025 budget, and two requests for overnight trips: FFA to National Convention and FCCLA to Fall conference.
Also the Board approved the 2024-2025 strategic plan, the purchase of a bus from Freightliner for delivery in July of 2025, and the resolution for the District to form its own police department.
The Board accepted the resignation of Meghann Smith. The Board approved the hiring of Warren Reed as a para professional. Mr. Reed began duties on Thursday, September 26.
Following discussion the Board approved the 2024-2025 school year ONLY, the ability of staff members to take five PTO days in a row without financial penalty. If staff members take more than five days in a row, the excess days will be docked financially.
It is important for staff members to realize that the excessive absenteeism policy still remains in effect which can include financial penalty, administrative write-ups etc. Five in a thirty day period, ten in a one hundred twenty day period and fifteen in a one hundred eighty day period. These day spreads are calendar days, not school or contract days.
It is the Board’s desire to tighten up the language regarding paid time off, well prior to the start of the 2025-2026 school year. With no further business the meeting adjourned.
