Donated Grand Piano Is A Hit At Trinit's School Of Music Concert

Posted

Friday, September 20, 2024 was a wonderful evening of Chamber music in Cole Camp. Gary Moege, Lorraine Miller and Jerrode Marsh, all musicians from the Sedalia Symphony Orchestra pleased the crowd who gathered in Trinity’s Narthex to hear beautiful selections of chamber music, including piano, French horn and flute.

The concert was significant as it celebrated the inaugural performance of the 1917 Steinway Grand Piano that was recently gifted to Trinity’s School of Music by a prominent musical educator, Dr. J. Gordon Christensen who is the Director of Music at St Paul’s School of Music in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dr. Christensen played the benefit organ recital at Trinity in January, 2020, which served as the vehicle for Trinity pairing with St Paul’s of Iowa to establish the Trinity School of Music. This prompted Dr. Christensen to gift Trinity with the Steinway he called “Frederick.”

The Trinity School of Music is a parish-based music school that provides musical instruction and performances to develop musicians and enrich the lives of student’s families and the entire community. The vision is to enrich lives through music. The purpose is to provide professional studio lessons and service-based music performance opportunities, while at the same time creating the next generation of musicians.

Music is a huge part of life in Germany and that has not been diminished in Cole Camp’s population that are descendants of those who emigrated from the “Vaterland”, (Fatherland) in the 1800’s. Germany has many forms of music ranging from folk music,” the music of the people” to German Country music to Classical music. Germany claims some of the most renowned composers in the world. From Bach to Beethoven to Brahms, and they reign supreme.

The Friday evening performance at Trinity was the first time the “narthex” was utilized as a “chamber” to provide a smaller, more intimate setting. Those who gathered were able to be closer to the performers and the sound in the room was brilliant. Stay tuned for future concerts.
