Gladys Irene (Mansfield) Walker, 92, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, MO.
Gladys was born on November 8, 1930, in Camp, Arkansas. She was raised in rural Phelps County near Licking, MO. She attended Licking High School in Licking, MO.
Gladys was united in marriage to Roscoe Walker, Jr. on November 24, 1951, in Licking, MO. They lived in Brownington, MO for a few years before moving to Lawson, MO, then to Polo, MO where, together, they raised their family of 5 children in a loving Christian home on a 60‑acre farm. Gladys retired as Cafeteria Manager from the Lawson, MO School District in 1990. She was a member of the Canaan Hill Church of the Nazarene in Lawson, MO for 30 years where she served as the Nazarene Missionary President and song leader and VBS Director. She was also head cook at numerous Nazarene Church Camps.
After retirement, Gladys and Roscoe moved to Brownington, MO and later joined the First Baptist Church in Deepwater, MO where Gladys served as song leader. Shortly after, they relocated to Lowry City, MO.
Gladys’ hobbies included singing, playing the piano, sewing and quilting, painting, gardening, canning, and socializing with family and friends. She was also a member of the Faith & Hope Club for many years.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Walker, Jr. and her parents William Granville Mansfield and Myrtle Ira (Sanders) Mansfield, and her brothers William Roy Mansfield, James Almon Mansfield, Earl Franklin Mansfield and Thurman G. Howard Mansfield, and her sister Rutha Lorene Mansfield.
Gladys is survived by her 5 children, Patrica Walker of Liberty, MO, Michael (Debbie) Walker of Licking, MO, Paula (Andrew) Morgan of Kansas City, MO, Phyllis (Paul) O’Neill of Lowry City, MO and Beth (Rick) Neth of Courtland, MS, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 9, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Deepwater with Rev. James Brack and Pastor Bryan Keith officiating. Special music included “Until Then, I’ll Fly Away and How Great Thou Art.” The casket bearers were Scott Elmer, Zach Walker, Micha Walker, Hunter Bellis, Eric Neth and Gavin Walker. Caleb Elmer, Pete Walker, Auggie Mendoza, Mitch Walker and Roscoe Walker were honorary bearers. Interment was in Maplewod Cemetery, Brownington, MO.
Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
