Have I Got A Line For You!

Many of us are already tired of the 2024 Presidential Campaign and we have 533 days until the election. The debates begin in August and the primaries in February. Wish we could move them to next June or July and live in ignorance until then, especially when the choice on both sides will be more of the same.

As I write this, we’re swinging into Memorial Day weekend. Years ago Memorial Day was called Decoration Day. It wasn’t a boating, picnic and fishing weekend, but a time to visit family graves and remembering. I’ll visit Riverside Cemetery in Warsaw and then Warrensburg where I’ll place flowers on graves there. In addition to placing a flower on the grave of Major Henry Neill, my great-great grandfather, I’ll do the same for his good friend and next door neighbor General Francis Marion Cockrell. They both loved Missouri and were attorneys in Warrensburg. The two family burial plots are adjacent to each other and I like to imagine the two old soldiers visiting in the night for hours, just as they used to, sitting on the front porch, sipping from glasses of good bourbon.

In a few days, we’ll be in June, the month of weddings and I have an invitation on the 17th from my Cousin Laura Loschke. She’ll marry Tom Kouba in Lee’s Summit. I wish them a world of happiness, a good wish for all brides and grooms. Speaking of this, it’s nice to hear the TV commercial playing “What A Wonderful World,” makes you feel better in these troubled times, doesn’t it?

I wonder with inflation and the economy, how far traffic will be backed up on Highway 7 Friday? Take good care of yourself this weekend and remember those who still watch over you, whether you realize it or not. You betcha old buddy!
