Have I Got A Line For You!

Here’s something I didn’t know but learned from Aunt Jane (JWB). Clinton once had a hotel called The Cozart. The Greyhound and Trailways buses stopped there. She said the sidewalk in front of the hotel was the recipient of many tears during the war years. This is where soldiers departed for duty or arrived after being shipped out. The Cozart’s dining room was a busy place too and where a number of Clinton organizations had their meetings. And people loved to go there for the hotel’s fried chicken dinners. The old hotel was right next to the railroad tracks which carried freight and passenger trains day and night, along with the sound of whistles. JWB told me both the Frisco and M.K.T. were still coming through town when my grandparents arrived in Clinton in 1950. In fact their first edition of the Democrat was printed on April 1, 1950. Incidentally, April 1, 2021 was the date of my first edition as publisher. Both dates probably should have told me something….. or other.

Well, gas prices have reached a new record and they’re closing in on $5.00 a gallon. I thought the sanctions were against Russia. None of this is really surprising. Uncle Joe has done exactly what he said he would do. Canceling land leases for oil companies, canceling the Keystone Pipeline and rejoining the Paris Climate Accord. It seems half of this country would vote for economic collapse. Who are the real radicals? I was a kid in the 1970’s but remember the energy crisis. Gas prices were soaring and there were long lines at filling stations along with fuel rationing. Bet we’ll be back to that soon unless something changes. In the meantime, get your locking gas caps back out before the tank gets siphoned. Socialism sure is grand. Just ask the people of Venezuela.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS! Researchers found parasite eggs in 4,500 year old human remains in a village near Stonehenge. This suggests that the builders of the big stone circle ate the internal organs of cattle. The site was a settlement known as Durrington Walls. In a way we’re still eating offal. Liver and onions come to mind. These are a favorite of Enterprise reporter Homer May along with hogs head cheese. Something he once brought to the office for everyone to try. I can go my whole life without experiencing that again, but each to his own.
