Lady Cardinals Down To Final Week, Districts Coming Up

Clinton softball played Harrisonville on Tuesday night and has a date with Warrensburg on Thursday to wrap up their 2023 campaign with only the Class 3 District 7 tournament remaining. That event will get underway on October 12.
But first things first, as the Lady Cardinals dropped two games to Pleasant Hill and Oak Grove last week before picking up a solid 7-5 home win over Marshall on Monday night.

CHS Softball With Tough Game Against Oak Grove Varsity Panthers

CHS Softball couldn't keep up with Oak Grove Varsity Panthers and fell 18-5 on Tuesday. Oak Grove Varsity Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after A Smith hit a sacrifice fly, Kayla Kemple grounded out, and Morgan Clubb singled, each scoring one run. Oak Grove Varsity Panthers scored eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. An error scored one run, an error scored two runs, Clubb singled, scoring two runs, Brianna Craig tripled, scoring two runs, and Molly Munson doubled, scoring one run. Oak Grove Varsity Panthers scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tomi Hill singled, scoring two runs, Clubb tripled, scoring one run, Riley Beard homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Mackenley Munson singled, scoring two runs. Clubb earned the win for Oak Grove Varsity Panthers. They gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Kenadie Austin took the loss for CHS Softball. The righty went three and one-third innings, surrendering 16 runs (seven earned) on 15 hits, striking out one and walking one. Lexi Barnhart, CHS Softball's number nine hitter, led the team with two hits in two at-bats. Kennison Crispi led CHS Softball with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-3 on the day. Oak Grove Varsity Panthers tallied 16 hits in the game. Clubb set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Oak Grove Varsity Panthers with four hits in four at bats. Hill, Munson, and Craig each collected multiple hits for Oak Grove Varsity Panthers.

CHS Softball Cannot Hold Onto Lead Versus Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks

CHS Softball lost to Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks 17-7 on Thursday even though they once led by four runs. CHS Softball got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Lexi Barnhart singled, and Lyn Brauer grounded out, each scoring one run. CHS Softball added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Briley Wishard doubled, Kenadie Austin grounded out, and Barnhart laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run. Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs on four hits to take a 11-5 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Addison Meeks that drove in three. Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks scored six runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. Natalie Hamilton drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Sophia Shipp was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Devyn Younce singled, scoring two runs, and Laney McDaniel singled, scoring one run. Younce earned the win for Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks. They allowed 10 hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Wishard took the loss for CHS Softball. They went seven innings, giving up 17 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, striking out three and walking eight. CHS Softball piled up 10 hits in the game. Kayla McCanles, Corynn Sowers, and Austin each collected two hits for CHS Softball. Austin drove the middle of the lineup, leading CHS Softball with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day.
Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks tallied 12 hits in the game. Caroline Kim, Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks's number eight hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Meeks provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Younce, McDaniel, and Tanna Kreisel each collected multiple hits for Pleasant Hill Varsity Chicks. The Chicks had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Kori Graves and Hamilton led the team with two bases on balls each.

Briley Wishard A Difficult Out As CHS Softball Defeat Marshall Owls

Briley Wishard collected three hits in four at bats, as CHS Softball defeated Marshall Owls 7-5 on Monday. Wishard singled in the first inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fifth inning. CHS Softball got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Marshall Owls committed an error, Wishard singled, and Kenadie Austin singled, each scoring one run. A single by Austin extended the CHS Softball lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Brooklynn Davenport homered to left field, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth for the Marshall Owls. Marshall Owls tied the game up in the top of the fifth thanks to two errors. Marshall Owls tied the game at five on an error.
A sacrifice fly by Carmen Bohannan gave CHS Softball the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fifth. Wishard earned the win for CHS Softball. The righty allowed four hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three. Aidyn Wilcoxson took the loss for Marshall Owls. The starting pitcher went six innings, surrendering seven runs (four earned) on nine hits, striking out none and walking none. Austin provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led CHS Softball with two runs batted in. They went 3-for-3 on the day. Wishard and Austin each collected three hits for CHS Softball. Ava Potter collected two hits for CHS Softball in four at bats. Davenport drove the middle of the lineup, leading Marshall Owls with three runs batted in. The center fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. McKenna Pawli, Davenport, Riley Wilkinson, and Ainsley McCracken each collected one hit for Marshall Owls.
