Lady Cards Make Run At 46th Annual Host Tourney

The Lady Cardinals run came up just short in their own 46th Annual Clinton Girls Basketball Tourament last week.
Clinton plowed through Adrian and Butler before coming up on the wrong end of a 48-36 final to Smith-Cotton in the championship game on Saturday night.

In their first game of the event last Tuesday night, the Lady Cardinals got 17 points out of Skyte Wilson and 14 more from Briley Wishard to lead Clinton past the Adrian Lady Blackhawks.
The Lady Cardinals led 12-3 in the early going and after a toe-to-toe second period, they held a 23-14 advantage.
A 16-13 margin in the third stretched the Clinton lead to 39-27 after three and they would go on to nearly match Adrian throughout the fourth to advance with the 49-38 win.

In their second round matchup, offense was at a premium but the Lady Cardinals found their way to a hard-fought 38-30 win over the Butler Lady Bears.
Clinton took a 10-4 lead after one and then doubled up the Lady Bears in the second, 16-8 to stretch their lead to 26-12 at the intermission.
The Lady Cardinals came out flat in the third and Butler crept back into the game, trailing only 30-21 after three, but the Lady Cards held on in the fourth to escape with a 38-30 win.
Briley Wishard led all scorers with 13 points and Skyte Wilson followed closely behind with 12 of her own.

In the final game of their host tournament, the Lady Cardinals got off to a slow start and trailed Smith-Cotton 13-5 after the first period was in the books.
However, the Lady Cardinals bounced back to double the scoring output of Smith-Cotton in the second to knot things up at 21-21 at the half.
It was another slow start for Clinton iin their return from the locker room as the Lady Tigers came out firing and took the third with an 18-8 margin and the Lady Cards found themselves down, by 10, 39-29.
A 9-7 Smith-Cotton advantage in the fourth doomed the Lady Cardinals in the 48-36 loss.
Skyte Wilson led the Lady Cardinals offense with 13 points while Briley Wishard dropped 10 in the losing effort.
Clinton had no answer for the Lady Tigers Bellamy who led all scorers in the game with 23.
