On January 27, 2024, Lawrence (Larry) Leonard Steinhauser of Clinton, MO was called home to God at 83 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of Clinton, MO.; siblings, Mary Ann of Plattsburg, MO, Robert of Little Rock, AR, John of Blue Springs, MO, James of Stanberry, MO and Donald of Stanberry, MO; children, Terri of Stilwell, KS, Dan of Lee’s Summit, MO and Matt of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Nick of Gardner, KS, Megan of Nashville, TN, Haylee of Lee’s Summit MO, and Logan of Lee’s Summit, MO; and great grandchildren, Brylie and Amaya of Gardner, KS. He was preceded in death by parents Leonard and Beatrice Steinhauser of Stanberry, MO and brother, William Steinhauser of Stanberry, MO.
Larry was born on December 8, 1940 in Stanberry, MO. He graduated from Stanberry High School in 1958. He attended three years at Northwest Missouri State University where he met his future bride. Larry met Bobbie in a dance class in college. They dated for 2 years before getting married on December 26, 1961. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary December 26, 2024.
After school, Larry started working at Pittsburg Plate Glass in St. Joseph, MO as a designer. Later, he decided to enter into the field of insurance in Springfield, MO as an insurance adjuster for Western Insurance Company. He later transferred to Clinton, MO where he remained in insurance until he retired at the age of 54.
After retirement he was very involved in volunteerism. He worked with such organizations as the Miss Missouri Pageant, Saint John’s Hospital, Holy Rosary Catholic Church and School, Trappist Monasteries, JCI Senator, Chairman of Handicapped Day at the Fair, volunteer ambulance driver, volunteer policeman, Boy Scouts of America, President of the Special Roads District, held several positions within the Knights of Columbus, most notably, Grand Knight, Clinton School Board, Red Cross Disaster Relief, co-chaired Ike Skelton’s election campaign, Board member of Clinton Country Club, Protecting God’s Children, Teens Encounter Christ, Catholic Marriage Prep, National Engaged Encounter, working in several capacities in the organization, most notably preparing over 6000 couples for marriage, helped establish the Samaritan Center, member of the Senior Center Board, member of the Senior Tax Board, State Representative of Silver Hair Legislature, assisted with home delivered meals from the Senior Center, started the Jaycee’s chapter in Clinton, MO and became the first president of the chapter. He also testified before Congress on the formation of Truman Lake. He received multiple awards for his accomplishments and contributions to his community.
A visitation was held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Mass following at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 610 S. 4th St, Clinton, MO 64735. Services are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family suggests donations to Holy Rosary School or the Clinton Senior Center, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
