Marquis Ward Cloud, 84, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Thursday evening, May 4, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was born September 17, 1938 in Roscoe, Mo., the son of Raymond Ward Cloud and Sylvia Marguerite (Kirkland) Cloud.
He married Barbara Jean Houk in Clinton, Mo., on January 23, 1959. She preceded him in death on August 20, 2020.
Mark was employed with Clearfield Cheese Company as a slice room foreman, retiring from Schreiber Foods in 1998. He worked for various chicken hatcheries as a young man, where he met Barbara. He also farmed in addition to his full time job before moving to town in 1979. He enjoyed all levels of baseball and softball, especially following his grandkids baseball and softball playing years. He was one of several who helped establish and continued to maintain the Clinton Little League baseball program for many years. He hunted coon, quail, wild hog, deer and mushrooms, and also enjoyed fishing. He was an avid coin collector. Prior to covid you could find Mark at various coffee shops, solving not all, but some, of the world’s problems.
Surviving are one daughter, Paula J. Thornley (Mitch), Clinton, Mo.; one son, Terry W. Cloud (Mary), Clinton, Mo.; ten grandchildren, Marquis M. Cloud, Clinton, Mo., Hunter Cloud, Appleton City, Mo., Tara Dettmer (Ryan), Centerview, Mo., Tiffany Kuntemeier (Drew), St. Peters, Mo., Nathan Campbell (Katy), San Antonio, Texas, Derek Thornley (Taryn), Chilhowee, Mo., Chelsea Clifford (Traver), St. Charles, Mo., Richard McNabb, Jr., Clinton, Mo., Nicole White (Mike), Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Meladie Cloud, Springfield, Mo.; 18 great-grandchildren, Dakota, Landon, Nolan, Parker, Damon, Carter, Kylie, Weston, Coleman, Paige, Jordan, Greyson, Kayleigh, Marley, Brielle, Keaton, Paxton and Breklynn; one great-great-granddaughter, Naomi; two sisters, Marilyn Carter (Jerry), Odessa, Mo., and Donna Wuster (Dave), Belton, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Marquis Lynn Cloud on February 1, 2010; and one great-granddaughter, Riley McNabb.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Vansant Road Cemetery.
