Mary Jo (Butler) Allen, age 60 of Calhoun, MO, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.
Mary was born on October 29, 1962 in Clinton, MO, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Hull) Butler.
Mary spent her school years in Clinton from kindergarten to the fourth grade. She then moved with her family to the Hull farm near Ladue, MO. Then fourth through the eighth grade at Davis R-12 School, graduating from Clinton High School in 1981.
In 1980 Mary started dating the love of her life Marvin. This was soon to be a long distance relationship. Her future husband was in the Marine Corp. stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii.
On January 2, 1983 Mary Jo married Marvin C. Allen directly after the wedding they left for New Bern, NC. This was the next duty station for Marvin at Cherry Point. They moved to Leeton, MO after his honorable discharge from military service, with their young son, later moving to Calhoun, MO.
Mary had various jobs before becoming disabled.
Mary is survived by her husband Marvin of 40 years, her 2 sons, Bryan (Holly) Allen of Sedalia, MO; and grandchildren, Cameron and Gracelynn Allen. Brett Allen of Calhoun, MO, and granddaughter, Olivia Allen of Calhoun, MO, step grandson, Jayden Lara of Windsor, MO, 2 brothers, James (Rea Donna) Butler of Clinton, MO, and William Butler of Clinton, MO, 1 sister, Peggy (Ron) Shoemaker of Clinton, MO, 2 brothers in law, Richard Allen of Calhoun, MO, David Allen of Jericho Springs, MO, 4 sisters in law; Kathryn Ruble, of Mexico, MO, Linda Allen and friend Russell Adams of Green Ridge, MO, LeeAnn (Brian) Long of Raytown, MO, Anita (Scott) Slaughter of Houstonia, MO, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth Butler, Velma Fletcher, John Allen and her nephew Nicholas Long.
A Celebration of Life was held March 16, 2023 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton with Rev. David Mills officiating. Special music included “I’ll Fly Away, Holes In the Floor of Heaven, High Upon a Mountain and See you Again.” Inurnment will be in MO State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO at a later date.
Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
