Clinton High School Sends 139 Graduates Out Into The World!

139 Clinton High School seniors are now graduates after a ceremony held at the gymnasium on Sunday, May 12 at 2 P.M. The event took place five days before the last day of school on May 17. Melissa Willings, Registrar and Counselors’ Secretary reported that the senior class earned 2.5 million dollars between scholarships, A+, and grants. She also said that Matteo Calabrese, a 12th grade exchange student from Italy, participated in the ceremony and will return to his home country later in May.
Speakers at the graduation were Brian Wishard, Superintendent; Jennifer Corson, High School Principal; Ava Potter, Senior Class President; Stacy Pitts and Tara Carter, School Counselors; Mikalah Scott and Briley Wishard, Student Speakers; and Nathan Lankford, Student Body President.
The Clinton Schools Facebook page reported that the Class of 2024 took one last bus ride on Friday, May 10, to visit the school buildings they grew up in. They walked the halls of the buildings in their caps and gowns, receiving hugs, high-fives, tears, and handmade signs from younger students.
Seating was limited in the high school gymnasium and tickets were required for entrance during the commencement ceremony. A live feed was provided in the Performing Arts Center adjacent to the gym.
The Clinton School District is the largest school district in Henry County. According to www.clintoncardinals.org it is home to 1,800 students in PK-12th grade. The district encompasses an early childhood program, an elementary school, intermediate school, middle school, high school, and technical school.
Also reported on the web site is information about summer school and a Back-to-School Fair. Summer School dates are May 28 – June 28 with no school on Mondays. Students can attend if they are entering the Clinton School District Kindergarten through 6th grade in the coming school year. Attendance will be recorded and those who attend 100 percent of the days will receive a $100 gift card at the end of their summer experience. They will get a $75 gift card if one day is missed, and $50 for two days missed. Gift cards will be mailed to the student’s address.
There is a Back-to-School Fair on August 1, from 4 to 6 P.M. in the Benson Center. It is in conjunction with the Mid-Day Optimists’ Henry County school supply distribution. All items are offered free of charge to families experiencing financial hardship who register by the deadline of Friday May 17. Only students in the Clinton School District may register.
The 2024/2025 school year will begin August 12 for new teachers, August 14 for staff and August 21 for students.
