Tax Measures Get Voters To Polls On Tuesday

Posted

There were only two questions for Clinton voters to weigh in on: both
were ¼ cent tax renewal questions: a 1/4 cent Parks and Rec tax and a
1/4 cent Transportation tax. Both were given the approval of
Clintonians to stay on the books*.

The Parks and Rec tax voting was 400 YES to 207 NO.

The Transportation tax: 416 YES to 190 NO.

Springfield Township also had a ballot issue, whether planning and
zoning should be adopted or not for them. It, too, was approved by
those voters at 46 YES to 16 NO. Bogart, Honey Creek, Tebo, Walker,
White Oak, and Windsor townships already have planning and zoning and
Springfield Township will join them.

The election did not see a lot of foot traffic, although it was a
little bit higher than predicted by our election authorities. There
were only two polling locations (the Clinton Benson Center and the one
in Springfield Township) open for voters.

The total turnout (unofficial) was 12.52% (671 of 5,359 eligible
registered voters). There were 62 total voters who turned out for the
Springfield Township question. A total of 34 absentee votes were cast
for the Clinton questions – there were no absentee votes cast in
Springfield Township.

*Election results are unofficial until verified.
