May is Beef Month. St. Clair County Cattlemen will have information and hold free drawings 9:00 a.m. - noon Saturday, May 6 at AC Food Fair, Carneys Supermarket of Osceola, and Buzz’s Market in Collins for: 2- $125 Beef Bundles, 2-Beef Logo Lawn Chairs and 1-Grill Set at each location.
The Ministerial Alliance of the Appleton City Area will have the Baccalaureate Service for the graduating class of 2023 on Sunday, May 7, 7:00 p.m. in the Appleton City School East Gym. You are welcome to attend.
The St. Clair Co Historical Society invites you to their next program, “Return to Vietnam” by Omar Hadsall, 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at the St. Clair Co Museum, 660 Main St. in Osceola. There will be refreshments and door prizes. For more info, contact Barry Jenisch at 308-379-2865.
The ACHS Alumni Meeting will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023 with a noon meal/meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend. Reservations of $14 may be mailed to Patti Purvis Young, 101 E. 3rd St , ACMO 64724. It will be $20 at the door. See the ad in the Journal this week. Lunch reservation deadline is May 13. Summer Reading sign up is here. Every Monday in July, the Appleton City Public Library will hold two summer reading groups. Kids 10 and under will be welcome at 11:00 a.m., while those 10 and up can come at 2:00 p.m. that same day for a little more in-depth learning. Parents and guardians can sign up any time during normal business hours between now and June 20, or call the Library at (660) 476-5513 for more information.
The AC FFA is holding their spring plant sale until the end of school. The FFA greenhouse will be open 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Stop by the Ag Building for assistance. The FFA has garden vegetables and flowers for sale such as tomatoes and peppers, as well as potting flowers like petunias, annual vinca, impatiens and geraniums. Flowers and vegetables can be purchased as four packs, individuals or as hanging baskets. Photos and information about all the items available in the greenhouse are located on the school website as well as the Facebook pages.
The Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation will raffle off a Pro Series 5 Burner Gas Griddle with drawing at the AC Car Show on July 8, 2023. Tickets are available from Foundation Board members, Leroy Swopes, Robbie Rotert, Bill Brownsberger, Paul Noble, Chris Green, Denice Nitchals, Laura Smith, April Loney and Julee Snyder. Tickets are $10 each or 2 for $15 or 3 for $20.
A fish fry benefit fundraiser will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. May 12 at the Fair Haven Park on Hwy C, 8 miles north of Walker, MO. The menu includes fried fish and hush puppies, baked beans, cole slaw and homemade bread and butter. Freshly cranked ice cream and homemade pies (baked by the community ladies) will be served for dessert. A freewill donation will benefit Stoney Creek, Walnut Creek and Shady Lawn Schools.
