Appleton City Worship Center invites everyone to Family Day In the Park, 2:00-6:00 p.m. May 13. They will have a bouncy hose for the kids as well as hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, music and fellowship with a special Mother’s Day raffle for all Moms (must be present to win).
The Knights of Columbus will have a breakfast buffet with their pancake and sausage plus eggs and potatoes, coffee, juice or milk at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Sunday May 14 (Mother’s Day). Treat your mother and other important ladies in your life to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated.
The Yellow Rose Day is coming so residents of the Appleton City area your support is needed in placing the over 2000 yellow silk rosebuds on the oldest graves in the Appleton City Cemetery in time for Memorial Day. Roses will be placed on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 8:30 a.m., with a rain date of Tuesday, May 23, at 8:30 a.m. All individuals, families, clubs or groups are welcome. The ACHS Alumni Meeting will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023 with a noon meal/meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend. Reservations of $14 may be mailed to Patti Purvis Young, 101 E. 3rd St, ACMO 64724. It will be $20 at the door. See the ad in the Journal this week. Lunch reservation deadline is May 13. Summer Reading sign up is here. Every Monday in July, the Appleton City Public Library will hold two summer reading groups. Kids 10 and under will be welcome at 11:00 a.m., while those 10 and up can come at 2:00 p.m. that same day for a little more in-depth learning. Parents and guardians can sign up any time during normal business hours between now and June 20, or call the Library at (660) 476-5513 for more information.
As we come out of the drought of 2022, we begin to look at what forages survived, as well as which did not and what we might be looking at for the reestablishment of our grazing systems in the near future. Join the MU Extension Office as they look at the most common forages adapted to southwest Missouri, the advantages of each, and how they might be established as the year moves forward. The facilitator for this program is Terry Halleran, MU Extension Agronomist. This free program, provide by your local MU Extension office, will be 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at the First Baptist Church, 555 Walnut Street in Osceola. A fish fry benefit fundraiser will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. May 12 at the Fair Haven Park on Hwy C, 8 miles north of Walker, MO. The menu includes fried fish and hush puppies, baked beans, cole slaw and homemade bread and butter. Freshly cranked ice cream and homemade pies (baked by the community ladies) will be served for dessert. A freewill donation will benefit Stoney Creek, Walnut Creek and Shady Lawn Schools.
