The Appleton City Fair will be August 19. Events include the Stout Baby Show, toddler swimsuit contest, kids games, pitch tournament, cornhole tournament, petting zoo, face painting, dunk tank, street dance, pancake & sausage breakfast, bounce houses, gellyball course and the parade at 5:00 p.m. Overload Band will be performing. Anyone wanting vendor registration forms or any other information can email appletoncityfair@gmail.com
The AC Fair Committee is having an AC Fair 2023 fundraiser drawing for ½ hog with processing. 2 winners will be drawn on August 19 at the Fair. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The winners will receive ½ hog with basic processing. Delivery to Heatherington’s in Clinton is provided. Winners will need to make arrangements to pick up processed meat once it is done. The “Golden Apples Senior Club” would like to announce and congratulate the winners of the “Chiefs Fundraiser Raffle”. Patty Thompson won the autographed football and Bob Roos won the Patrick Mahomes framed print.
The Appleton City Optimist Club will be holding flag football (grades 1-6) and volleyball (grades 4-6) signups from July 17-August 6. There will be no late signups, so make sure to mark your calendars. Sign up will be online starting July 17 at the Appleton City Optimist Club facebook page.
Livestock and forage producers need education on management strategies to make the farming operation more sustainable in dealing with future droughts. Furthermore, as farmers are dealing with and recovering from drought it is the best time to discuss and implement these management strategies. Therefore, MU Extension Ag Field Specialists are working together to provide a workshop titled “strategies to build a sustainable forage and livestock operation” at 12:30 p. m. on August 3 at the Forest Park Building, 206 East 5th Street, Appleton City, MO 64724. MU Extension Ag Field Specialist will discuss management strategies for livestock and forage operations to utilize as they deal with and recover from drought. Also, these strategies can build operation sustainability to deal with future droughts. Specific areas that will be covered include: Cattle nutrition and management, Small ruminant nutrition and management, Forage management and alternatives and Market outlook. Free private tennis lessons are offered to anyone at the tennis courts at Donnohue-Dugan Park. Rackets and balls will be provided.
