Many factors have led to a limited expensive forage supply for cattle producers to carry their cattle through the winter. Supplementation strategies may be expensive, so efficient use of hay and supplements to meet cattle nutrient needs is important to profitability of a cattle operation. Pastures have really been stressed the last two years and it is likely that renovation may be taking place in the future to build a better forage base for cattle in the coming years. There may be management strategies that can be implemented this winter to begin renovation or build back the forage base that has been lost the last two years. MU Extension wants to provide two educational sessions to cattle producers and farmers to help them to manage their cattle and pastures through the winter months to be successful in the coming years. MU Extension Field Specialists Patrick Davis and Hunter Lovewell will hold meetings to address these topics: November 28 6:00 p. m. at Centennial Hall at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, Nevada, MO and November 30 6:00 p. m. at Stockton High School Ag Classroom. There will be a meal at each of these meetings, paid for by donations from FCS Financial and Mid-MO Bank. The same information will be covered at each of the meetings, so sign up for the one that best fits your schedule. Sign up for the meeting online at https://tinyurl.com/ycxhze3u. Also, you can sign up for the Nevada meeting at the Vernon County MU Extension Center at (417) 448-2560 or the Stockton meeting at the Cedar County MU Extension Center at (417) 276-3313. To attend and to get a proper head count for these free meetings register by November 24. For all other questions contact Davis at (417) 276-3313 or email at davismp@missouri.edu.
