Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Tucker McNeely rang the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Our Sympathy and Christian love are extended to the family and friends of Wanda “Bilbruck” Woods, Richard Nelson and Jean Dittmer who passed into the arms of Jesus this week. Others on our prayer list include: Carrie Smithton, Joe and Marlene Hall, Debby and Clint Land, Sondra Short, Millie Redding, Amber and Patrick Dittmer and baby girl, and Dave Burson; the war in Israel and Ukraine, our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: What a beautiful morning to praise the Lord. We all enjoyed the homemade chocolate chip cookies shared by Carol Lane for pre-church fellowship this morning. Tucker McNeely and Masson Keller lit the altar candles at the beginning of our service today. We were pleased to sing Happy Birthday to Dalton Conner and Happy Anniversary to Debbie and Floyd Joy, and wish all many more. The children presented the Fathers a mug filled with snacks in Honor of Father’s Day. Special Music: by Shelby Bicknell, “Thank You Lord for Dads;” accompanied by Jeremy Reed on the drums; thanks to both for sharing. Tucker McNeely led the congregation in the Lord’s Prayer during worship this morning. Harvesters Food Drop was held last Friday. Jerry Reed was pleased to be able to help with this worthwhile project for the first time following knee surgery. We were pleased for Margaret and Jim Jones to join us for worship this morning. We are planning a one day Bible School for children in July. We will announce the details as so as they are finalized. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience.
Rev. Jackson Short sermons include an interesting historical view of the scriptures and how they apply today. We are so pleased to have pulled him from retirement and into our church family.
We invite you to be our guest any Sunday morning at 10:00, come dressed as you are comfortable. Plan to receive a blessing for your effort, bring the youngsters and we will be blessed by your presence. Thought for the week: “It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.”

First Baptist
On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered the second message of the series ‘Pray Like This’ titled “Our Father in Heaven”. Jesus teaches us how to pray, warning against vain repetition and encouraging us to engage our minds and hearts in conversation. Prayer begins with Who we pray to – Our Father in Heaven. While God is many great things, such as healer and creator, Jesus calls Him Father when He prays. The fatherhood of God reminds us that we are all children of God, created in His image. He is our Father of salvation when we choose Him. He is the Father of truth, all knowing and all loving. His name is holy because it is His character. His glory is a declaration of His name. To pray that God’s name be honored as holy is to pray to align our lives to honor His name. The Lord’s prayer includes us as God’s people, and it begins with praise to our good, good Father. He loves us and offers a relationship where all is forgiven. It is always the right thing to run to our Father in Heaven.
Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm at the Vansant location for anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups. Our Heavenly Father provides us undeserved grace. Choose to purposefully live a more faithful life as a Christ follower. Live your life with a holy purpose and make the most of your time. You are blessed with the unfailing love of God.
Our choir sang the anthem “In this Very Room” by Tom and Carol Harris. Using Jeremiah 29: 10 – 14 as her text Rev. Nancy Gillard gave the message I Hear Everything. We observed communion during worship and celebrated all Fathers on their special day.
Congratulations to our graduates: Carley Combs and Ava Potter Clinton High School, Arlie Wilson Leeton High School and Abbie Hicks Central Methodist University BSN Nursing. We will celebrate them here on July 14, Graduation Sunday.
Over 150 brightly colored dresses and 5 pairs of boys shorts are hanging in our foyer. Plans are to pack and mail these garments in July to the “Dresses for Little Girls in Africa” project. Thank you to everyone who helped.
Old prescription glasses for the Festival of Sharing are filling the basket quickly. Please bring in your old outdated prescriptions and they will be passed on to those in need.
Toothbrushes in all sizes are needed for the Samaritan Center. Harvesters does not donate hygiene products, so they are in demand. The Presbyterian Women request your help with this new mission effort. In the past we have donated several hundred toothbrushes. Let’s make a significant contribution once again. Please place all your donations on the foyer shelves.

Mt. Calvary Apostolic Pentecostal
“The Love of the Father”
Luke 15:20-21.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7.
God instructs us as to how men should teach the family. In ancient days, the men left the house to work in the fields and the women stayed in the house and took care of the household.
As fathers, we should teach our children to understand God’s word. God is our spiritual father. (Lamentations 3:22-26)
We could have lost our lives numerous times. It was at the mercy of God that we were not consumed. Thank God for his traveling grace. Our spiritual father has an everlasting love.
Jesus gave the parable of the prodigal son to reflect hi, our spiritual father. When we are with him, we have all we need.
This son wanted his inheritance from his father, once he got it, he left home and squandered all of his money. The only job he could get was feeding the pigs.
He returned home and his father saw him in the distance coming. To see him that far off, he had to be looking for him often. His father met him, hugged and kissed him.
It was a joyous occasion that his father wanted to celebrate. His son, who was lost, was now found. The Lord says, when a person gets back to their right mind, they will want to return home.
Jhn 15:12-13.
The angels rejoice over one soul. Jesus is that everlasting love. Don’t allow things in this world to pull you away from God. Keep your relationship with your spiritual father, the Lord. God Bless

Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Mathew 28:18.
“No Creed but Jesus.” This is a common expression among millions of Christians today. It is meant to promote the idea that churches don’t matter. Doctrines don’t matter. Everyone can believe whatever they want to believe. Just believe in Jesus. That’s enough. Someone doesn’t believe in original sin or baptismal regeneration? No problem. Someone believes a person cooperates in their salvation, rather than it being God’s work alone? No problem. The list goes on and on and on…
Lutherans all accept all the doctrines of the Lutheran Church. They are specific and written down for all to see and understand. There is no ambiguity. They are not optional. All Lutherans believe all human beings are born sinful and separated from God. All Lutherans believe God alone works through Word and Sacrament to create and sustain faith in everyone who believes.
Where are these gifts of God most commonly found? In churches where the Word of God is proclaimed, the Law and Gospel are preached, and the Sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper are rightly administered.
Come to church this Sunday. God the Holy Spirit has promised to meet you there in spirit and truth and teach all who hear, as Jesus commanded us to do. Soli de gloria!
Meredith Recycling will be here on Saturday, June 22nd 8 am to noon, to collect computer equipment, TVs and small appliances. There is a fee to pay for Televisions and monitors. Check the Fellowship bulletin board for the complete list of items they will accept.

It was a great Father’s Day as we gathered for worship service. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Becca Sowell playing violin. We rejoiced with Kevin Richeson on his birthday and with Tim and Marta Stoneking on their 20th wedding anniversary.
Randy Vogt and Lonny Bramell collected the offering.
Interim Pastor Steve Sowell read Psalm 32 especially for Father’s Day. The scripture passage from his sermon was from Romans 4. This passage tells us that Abraham was justified and saved by faith and grace alone. The same is true for us.
(Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”) We cannot be saved by works or anything we do to earn God’s favor. Our faith in Him and God’s grace is the only way. Because of this wonderful gift of salvation we should abide in Him, trust, love, and do what He asks of us. Have a blessed week.
