Cole Camp Chamber Calls For Volunteers For "Potato Day"

Posted

The Cole Camp Chamber met Tuesday, September 9 at the German table with Roxy Viebrock hosting the noon meal.

On the agenda was “Potato Day,” a reminder to the volunteers that bring their paring knives to peel potatoes for the German Potato Salad prepared for Oktoberfest and the Mt Hulda Fish Fry. The volunteers are to bring their own knives and be at the German Table at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 26. Lots of hands will make quick work of the large task.

A guest, Melanie Benitz, a career adviser from Cole Camp R-1 School, spoke briefly on how she is helping Jrs. and Srs. have a game plan prior to graduation.

Under business reports it was noted the new Bar & Grill, The Last Resort, was open for the Fair and there seemed to very glowing reports about the establishment.

Bob Gare gave a brief report on the Zucchini races held in July (He was not at the August meeting). He noted the food entries of dishes made with zucchini had increased. Hopefully it can find a way to return to the downtown area in the future. Possibly in the location of the Coon Dog Water races held during the fair.

Oktoberfest was discussed and it was strongly emphasized how much volunteers are needed. There are 15 vendors this year and there will be a new German Band playing this year with plenty of German Food.

Judy Smasal gave a great report on the upcoming Pumpkinfest to be held at the end of October. It was announced the Antique Tractor Club would hold the drawing for the restored tractor at the conclusion of the Pumpkinfest.

Bob Gare reminded everyone the first luncheon on Whiteman for the Base Community Council will be in October. If anyone wants to attend they should contact Gare for details.

Roxy Viebrock stated she had nothing new to report on membership. Marge Lumpe, from Community Betterment, said the signs for the public restrooms in the Jaycee Park had been up briefly but taken down for the Beer Gardens during the Cole Camp Fair. They will be reinstalled now that the fair is ended.

Cindy Jolly gave a detailed update on the pending Antique Tractor show to be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 26, 27.and 28th. The club desperately needs volunteers to help with wrapping and serving approximately 350 hot dogs for the visiting students from the surrounding schools in the area. This is a large task on an already overloaded staff of volunteers serving a hearty farm breakfast that morning. The event serves to teach students from public, private academies and home schooled about historic farm practices.

The club is definitely operating a tram between the tractor grounds and downtown Cole Camp during Oktoberfest, Saturday the 28th. They are attempting to get a second tram to cut down wait times for the passengers. The trams should provide an opportunity for visitors to Cole Camp to enjoy both great events.

The next Cole Camp Chamber is October 8 at noon. Location and host to be announced. Public is encouraged to attend and be part of the Chamber’s support of the community.
