As everyone in the area of Lakeview Heights/Golden Acres knows the Countryside Eagles #4286 sticks to their motto of “People helping People.” This summer the ladies Auxiliary took on a new project and raised money for “Mother’s Refuge” in Independence, Missouri.

The refuge is a safe home for pregnant, homeless women. The facility provides access to medical care, case management, health & fitness, clothing and personal items, Baby care training, 24 hr supervision, and Internet & Computer access.

Additionally they provide life coaching, help with adoptions, continuing education, parenting coaching, life skills, money management, therapy and transportation if needed. The Auxiliary raised $2,500 for the facility and recently took the money to the refuge and presented it to the staff.

Upcoming benefits hosted by the Lodge includes a dinner on Saturday, August 24 for Operation Barbecue Relief to assist in replacing some of the items lost in the devastating fire this past month. The meal will be Pulled pork, Baked Beans, coleslaw and dessert. All donations greatly appreciated.

The group is planning a second fundraiser for OBR to be held Friday evening, August 30. This will be a steak dinner complete with a Cornhole tournament and Live music in the evening. Please support one or both of these fund raisers and help OBR rebuild.

OBR is armed with a fleet of cooks, mobile pits, kitchens and volunteers. Operation Bar-Q Relief delivers the healing power of BBQ to disaster affected communities, offering solace to residents, First responders and Relief workers.

Their commitment to serve extends beyond disaster response. Through initiatives like the Always Service Project and OBR, the equipment volunteers, including heroes in uniform and their families. They offer invaluable culinary skills and the support of purpose-driven kinship empowering them to continue serving their communities by feeding those in need.

OBR is a 501(c)3 non-profit operation founded in May 2011 in response to need for tornado relief efforts in Joplin. Together, with pit masters from nine different states, they fed approximately 120,000 meals in a 13-day period. So if you’re looking for some pulled pork or a good steak dinner, consider supporting the Eagles efforts to raise money to support OBR as they work to build back what they lost in their destructive fire.
