Donald Eugene Mackey, Sr., 72, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Adair Village in Clinton. He was born August 4, 1952 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Samuel Eugene Mackey and Lila (Rosicka) Mackey.
He married Vicki Carol Deringer on June 25, 1972 in Overland Park, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2021.
Don retired from the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military service he was employed for Schreiber Foods for many years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Veteran of Foreign Wars. Don enjoyed playing games on his computer, watching war movies and westerns on television, fishing, going to the gun range and he enjoyed long car rides. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Donald E. Mackey, II (Megan), Clinton, MO, and Aaron Allen Mackey (Valerie), Pikeville, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Alexander Mackey, Kairi Mackey, Aiden Mackey, Allyson Mackey, Jackson Mackey and Carly Mackey; two sisters, Cathy Dodd, Butler, MO, and Shirley Jelks, Osceola, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, preceding him in death are his parents; and one brother, Robert “Bob” Mackey.
A Celebration of Life will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Military services will be at the chapel at 6:30 p.m. under the direction of the Air Force Honors Team and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1894. Entombment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO, at a later date. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.
