Doris Lee Fields

Doris Lee Fields, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.

Doris Lee Fields was born on December 13, 1939, the daughter of Alva Marion Powers and Leona May (Hopkins) Powers. 

Doris worked as a telephone operator right out of high school in Kansas City. After marriage she was an operator in Warrensburg, MO. until 1964 when she quit moving with Elmer’s job with Peabody Coal. In 1968 when they bought their home in Clinton she went back to work at the United Telephone Company until the office closed. She worked for a short time for Whiteman Community Credit Union. Then she worked for Westwood Nursing Home for over 30 years until retirement. She worked as an Aide, Med tech, supply clerk and driving clients around to appointments and pickups. In her spare time she helped with bookkeeping for Elmer’s trucking business.

Doris grew up in the Norris community graduating from 8th grade at Norris School. She finished her schooling graduating from Chilhowee High School in 1957. She was a member of Garland Baptist Church where she was baptized. In 1959 Doris and Elmer were married at the pastors home in Garland. She loved to square dance with the Golden Valley square dance club, enjoyed watching cooking shows on television, and loved going out to eat with family.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Elmer Fields, her parents, three sisters, Anna May Crooks, Ruth Childers, and Betty Bigler, and one brother Gene Powers. 

Survivors include one daughter Karen Fields, one son Dennis Fields and fiancé Karla, sister-in-law Mary Alice Powers, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held March 13, 2026 in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO with Pastor Justin Wright officiating.  

Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
