Gerald Hood, age 76, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Luke's Plaza Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Gerald Lee Hood was born on October 2, 1949 in Clinton, Missouri to Clayton B. and Anna Frances Hood. Gerald was raised from age 2 by his father and stepmother Lena Hood Eversole. Gerald graduated from Clinton High School in 1967 and after graduating, Gerald married the love of his life Joyce Wilson in November of 1967. In March of 1968 their daughter Lena was born and then in November of 1970 their son Jerry was born.
Gerald spent most of his years working in the grocery store business. He worked at A&P, Safeway, United Super, and IGA. He then went to work with William F. Crome as a delivery driver and worked in the office where he started his career in sales. He went to work for Marrones selling for 26 years.
Gerald also had a small arcade he named Captain Video, where he was a father and friend to a lot of kids that looked up to him and included Lena and Jerry’s school friends.
Gerald loved working outside with his flowers and rose bushes. He was always behind the camera capturing every moment. But most of all he loved being outside with his grandkids and later great grandkids playing ball or riding them around on the tractor and lawn mower. He liked taking family on trips to the city around Christmas time. They would all load up in the van, leave early in the morning and get home around one or two in the next morning. They had lots of fun times together. He dressed up as Santa Claus when all the kids were little.
Gerald was very passionate about his ministry at the church, He was a door greeter, worked with VBS, an AWANA volunteer, and took many, many pictures of the classes. He would work in the kitchen where he knew how everyone took their coffee. He also delivered the prayer list to many people.
Gerald loved his trains, his son made sure Dad got a train or train set every year for Christmas and his birthdays.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Clayton Hood and Frances Hood Lyles, his stepmother Lena Eversole Hood, two brothers Bobby Gene, and Charles, and one sister Clayta June Hood Leach.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Joyce, his son Jerry, and daughter Lena and fiancé Edward, 4 grandchildren; Shawn Hood, Christina (James) Gainous, Heather Hood and fiancé Kelven Wilson, Daniel (Alexandra) Atkinson, 11 great grandchildren; Aaron Vest, Wyatt Kihn, Cooper and Lucas Gibbs, Amelia, Georgia and Alex Atkinson, Chance and Rosie Wilson, Deklan and Egan Wilson, sister-in-laws, Caroline (Fred) Trowbridge, Linda Griffitt, nieces, Lori (Greg) Chapman, Lisa (Les) Lemke, Lori Griffitt, Diana Griffitt, Theresa (Mark) Manuel, nephews, Doug (Cindy) Lamons, Scott Emerson, Danny (Lori) Lamons, Donnie Griffitt Jr., and numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews and friends. Gerald will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held January 16, 2026 at Allen Street Baptist Church, Clinton with Pastor Justin Wright officiating. Special music included "Goodness of God, Jealous Of the Angels, Scars In Heaven and Save a Place For Me." The casket bearers were Jeff George, Doug Steward, Gary Arwood, David McClymond, Aaron Vest, Shawn Hood, Daniel Atkinson, Doug Lamons, Danny Lamons, Greg Chapman and Jerry Green. Jerry Mosley and Tim Loyd were honorary bearers. Interment followed in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO.
Arrangements were entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
