The Henry County Library is pleased to announce that they were named a recipient of a $499 grant from the Truman Lake Community Foundation as part of the Truman Lake Area Grantmaking Program Fall 2023. The grant funds awarded have been utilized to support the project “Resetting the Dial on Dial-A-Story”. Dial-A-Story was introduced at the Henry County Library in 1977 and has only been upgraded twice since its inception, with the latest upgrade dating back to 2004. The library is excited for the opportunity to revitalize this valued outreach service.
Dial-A-Story has provided many hours of entertainment to children who dialed in over 3,000 times a year for the past 46 years. The library has replaced the outdated cassette tapes and equipment with a web-based service, Stories in the Cloud, that offers the ability to play multiple story selections at a time.
The Henry County Library would like to thank the Truman Lake Community Foundation, our local affiliate, and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks for providing us with the opportunity to better serve our community. The Truman Lake Community Foundation was founded in 2000 with a mission to enhance the quality of life in Henry County through resource development, community grantmaking, collaboration and public leadership. Founded in 1973, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks is the region’s largest public charitable foundation serving a network of donors, 54 regional affiliate foundations — including the Truman Lake Community Foundation — and nonprofit partners across central and southern Missouri.

The Henry County Library was named a recipient of the 2023-2024 Technology Mini Grant awarded by Secretary of State, Jay Ashcroft through the Missouri State Library. A total of 28 libraries throughout the state received a portion of the $320,000 in grant funds awarded. The Henry County Library received a $5,000 grant for the purpose of upgrading the public computers housed at the Lenora Blackmore Branch in Windsor.
The existing public computers had been in place since the branch was acquired in 2009. The grant funds were applied towards the purchase of 6 new public computers as well as an ADA-compliant touchscreen monitor. This update serves to enhance patrons’ ability to access the library’s technology and resources with upgraded equipment and to further meet the needs of those with disabilities through the addition of the touchscreen. The Clinton facility also upgraded its computer lab in 2021 with funds received through a Technology Mini-Grant. The library is pleased to have been afforded the opportunity to provide these upgrades to better serve the needs of our community.
This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
