James Allen “Jim” Maness, 76, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Tuesday night, March 12, 2024 at his home with his wife of 32 years, Vickey, by his side, and overlooking his favorite location on Truman Lake. He was born March 30, 1947 in Pleasant Hill, Mo., the son of James Wilbur Maness and Mary (Simpson) Maness.
Jim began working in the grocery store business with Milgrim’s food stores the day he turned 16 and worked for Milgrim’s until their last family store closed. He later went to work for Price Chopper, working his way up the store ladder, retiring as manager. He spent over 50 years of his life in the grocery store business. He was known for his sense of humor and reliability, missing only a handful of days in those 50 plus years. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. H enjoyed hunting and fishing, but with his recent severe heart condition he wasn’t able to enjoy his hobbies like he used to. He was instrumental in teaching his young grandsons, Jonathan Henderson and Daniel Clark, proper gun safety so they could thoroughly enjoy their many hunting trips with Grandpa.
He married Vickey Lynne Webb in December of 1992 in Grandview, Mo., and she survives of the home. Additional survivors are three daughters, Cynthia Hoeper, Kimberly Arns Mayer and Jennifer Maness; two step-sons, Aaron Henderson (Donna), and TK Webb; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Ellen Bernal; two nieces; Ferguson family, friends of 50 plus years; and Spears family, friends of 60 plus years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and good friend of 60 plus years, Phillip “Randy” Spears.
Jim professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in 1994, joining the Lee’s Summit Baptist Temple.
