Jim A. Martin age 81, of Clinton, Missouri passed away peacefully on February 15, surrounded by family. Funeral Services will; be Monday, February 24, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Clinton, Missouri. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church. Cremation to follow with inurnment in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clinton- Building Fund, the Dr. James D. and JoAnne Bourland Cancer Center at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare and the Clinton Elks Lodge 1034 and may be left in care of the funeral home.
He was born on June 10, 1943, in Sedalia, Missouri, to William Arthur and Elizabeth (Wiley) Martin. Jim graduated from Hughesville High School in 1961 and went to Missouri Valley on a basketball scholarship. He married Linda Bain on December 15, 1963.
Jim was involved with many community projects that included the Clinton City Council, Design committee for Clinton Main Street, City of Clinton Historic Preservation Commission, the Cemetery Board - perpetual fund, the Arts Council, was a member of the Old Glory Days committee, and many others. Jim donated stained glass work to community fundraisers. An example of his stained glass work is installed in the transom of the Henry County Museum.
He had many hobbies and interests. He loved his stained glass art, antiques, and refinishing furniture which he found at many estate sales. He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, fast-pitch softball, basketball, and most of all spending time with family.
His father, Art Martin, and mother, Elizabeth Beasley, preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Martin, two daughters, Lisa (Joe) Bray of Kansas City and Michele Shanahan of Lee’s Summit, five grandchildren, Westin (Alex) Miller of Kansas City, Lauren (Jeff) Miller of Blue Springs, Elly (Colten) Bynum of Lee’s Summit, Abby (Ryan) Sturm of Overland Park, Abigail Shanahan of Lee’s Summit, three great-grandchildren, Quintin James, Adalyn, Baby Bynum, one sister, Carolyn (Cary) Schlesselman, and one brother, Tom (Lou) Martin.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
