The Clinton Lady Cardinals wrapped up another win against Oak Grove last Thursday in a big way, 45-18 over the visiting Lady Panthers.
The Lady Cardinals were able to relax and play a much less aggressive game against Oak Grove.
At the beginning of the game, there was talk about how the Oak Grove lost quite a few key players last year with varsity being an almost all-senior laden team.
The game was slow and almost painful to watch as the Panthers definitely have some rebuilding to do before they are able to have the record they did last year. The Lady Cardinals were able to kick it out of sixth gear and play a game of fundamentals against the Lady Panther's fresh starting lineup.
In the first quarter, the Lady Cardinals took an astonishing lead over the Panthers with a first-quarter score of 12-2. Clinton’s Vyla Brown (4), Allie Cardwell (2), Skyte Wilson (3), Ava Potter (1) and Briley Wishard (2) all scored points in the opening quarter.
The Panthers were less fortunate though only scoring two points made by Munson.
The second quarter was the same narrative Vyla Brown (4), Mercedes Brown (3), Skyte Wilson (2), and Briley Wishard (2) all scored, bringing the halftime score to 23-4 while the Panthers only put another two points on the board.
After halftime, the Cardinals performed the same while the Panthers slowly scored from behind.
Clinton put over ten points on the board once again in the third quarter. Scorers were Vyla Brown (2), Skyte Wilson (5), Ava Potter (3), and Briley Wishard (3). The Panthers, Munson put 4 points on the board for Oak Grove, the only player who scored the entire game. That brought the third-quarter score to 37-8.
The Panthers kicked it up a notch in the fourth quarter with multiple players scoring. Clinton held steady to the pace they were going, sending the Panthers home with not much on the table to bring back for Oak Grove.
