Margaret (Peggy) Irene Maupin, 98, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by her family and in the care of hospice during her final days.
Peggy was born on April 10, 1926, in Brookfield, Missouri, to Glenn and Alice Moore. However, her birth father died when she was quite young and her mother later married Ruel Jones, who Peggy knew as her father and was known as granddad to her children. She lived most of her childhood in Brookfield. After graduating from St. Aloysius Academy in 1944, she entered nurses’ training at Saint Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. During her time in nurses’ training her parents were living near Elm, Missouri, where Peggy met Dennis Maupin. They were married on December 9, 1946, and later became the parents of five children.
For a few years Peggy and Dennis operated a small dairy operation in the Elm area. Later they owned and operated a gas station and restaurant in the same vicinity. After her children were older, Peggy worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, Missouri.
Peggy and Dennis lived in the Elm area until 1981 when they moved to Holden, Missouri. For several years they enjoyed spending part of the year in southern Texas. In 2001 they moved to Clinton, Missouri. In 2020 Peggy moved to Topeka, KS, where she lived with her daughter Jeanne and son-in-law John Hurr. In 2023 she moved back to Clinton, residing at Jefferson Gardens until she passed away.
Peggy lived her life as a very faithful Christian. She did not need to tell people she was a follower of Jesus; it was apparent by the way she lived. She loved reading the Bible and was doing so until the last few days of her life. For many years she was quite involved in activities with her church family, whether it was the church in Elm, Clinton, southern Texas, or other places. Peggy found great joy in the mission trips in which she and Dennis participated. She left
her mark of love and care on the lives of the many people she encountered on those trips.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dennis, granddaughter Rebekah Maupin, great-grandson Micah Hurr, and sister Helen Ramsey.
Surviving are her five children: Rick (Diane) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Jeanne (John) Hurr of Topeka, Kansas; Dennis (Jennifer) of Clinton, Missouri; Mick (Michelle) of Calhoun, Missouri; and Gary (Kim) of Warsaw, Missouri. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren,15 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Clinton First Baptist Church, Clinton, Missouri. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be at the Elm Spring Cemetery, Kingsville, Missouri, at 2:30 p.m. Services under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.
