Peggy Bowles and Peggy Powell were initiated into Chapter EN, P.E.O., at its March 14 meeting at First Presbyterian Church.
Nancy Gillard, president, led the initiation ceremony. Linda Griffiths installed the officers for 2024-25: Nancy Gillard, president, Mary Lou Philpott, vice-president, Sandra Wagoner, recording secretary, Linda Wilson, corresponding secretary, Kay Grunig, treasurer, Judy Doll, chaplain, and Marge Beasley, guard. Nancy thanked the officers for their willingness to serve, and presented each of them with a small bouquet of marguerite daisies, the P.E.O. flower.
Founded in 1869, P.E.O. is a philanthropic, educational organization that supports higher education opportunities for women, including scholarships, grants and low-interest loans. P.E.O also owns and supports Cottey College, a women’s college in Nevada, Missouri.
Nancy passed out the Missouri P.E.O. membership newsletter encouraging new chapter officers to connect with a social activity outside of the meeting.
Chapter members will gather at the Clinton Country Club on March 21 for lunch and an afternoon of Bunco, Linda Griffiths announced.
The next meeting of the chapter’s First Friday Mystery Book Club is April 5 at First Presbyterian Church. The group will meet at 10 a.m. for scones and tea, followed by a discussion of “The Marlow Murder Club” by Robert Thorogood. Connie Grisier is the book club organizer.
A brief program was presented before the meeting on the upcoming school ballot issues. Hostesses Shirley Jordan and Mary Ann Bath decorated the tables for St. Patrick’s Day and served lemonade and cookies after the meeting.
