Peggy Cox

Peggy Cox, age 82, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at St Luke's East Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Peggy Ann Cox was the first baby of the New Year January 1, 1943, the daughter of Elijah Syrus & Anna Mae Jones, being the 2nd of six children. Peggy graduated from Clinton High School and was a lifeguard during her high school days. She met the love of her life at the Clinton roller rink William Wesley Cox. They were married in her parents home on November 21, 1962. Peggy was baptized and a member of Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at Clearfield Cheese during the young adult years and once they started having a family she became a stay at home mom. As the kids got older she became a friend to many kids as a cook in Clinton School District.

Peggy lived most of married life on a farm outside of Clinton. She had a few animals, a large garden and a fruit tree orchard. Peggy was amazing at making fruit pies, blackberry cobbler being a family favorite and terrific cook. She was a wonderful wife and mom, providing a home where all was welcome. She attended many activities that her kids and grandkids were a part of. Camping was a family activity that they shared with their kids and now the kids have passed onto their kids. She loved to travel and was always up for a last minute phone call to go on an adventure. Once she took a tour bus trip to Colorado and New Mexico and came back with stories of places seen, mishaps along the way of the bus breaking down. She had taken a bus tour with daughter to Tennessee to the Grand Ole Opry, Ice castles, Christmas shows and created new friendships along the way.

Peggy enjoyed reading and sharing books with her siblings. She had a gift of making new friends wherever she went with a contagious smile. She had a very giving heart; if you needed something and she had it you were always welcome to it. She was famous for calling to check in on family and friends. The real love of her life was with her husband and spending time with family!

Survivors include her Brother Roy (Penny) Jones, her sister Frances (Larry ) Trenary, her 3 children: Steve(Susan) Cox, Debbie (Michael) Lesmeister, Brian (Alice) Cox, 7 grandchildren: Danielle (Cody), Erin (Jackson), Brett (Alicia), Andrew (Jordan), Lyndsay(Dave), Jonathan, Emily (Tomàs),and  great granddaughter: Magnolia Rae.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Cox, her parents: Elijah and Anna Mae Jones, her brothers:  James Jones, Joe and (Cinda) Jones, and Bob and (Evonne) Jones.

Memorial services were held August 20, 2025 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton with Pastor Chris Jones officiating.  Special music included "Wings of a Dove and I Will Rise." Inurnment in Vansant Road Cemetery, Clinton, MO.

Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
