The City of Appleton City is placing a Use Tax for online purposes on the ballot. This tax is based on online out of state purchases. The tax you pay for the online purchases goes to the State of Missouri. With a Use Tax in place, the State would then return what is the current city sales tax to Appleton City. The Use Tax will not increase the sales tax, affect businesses and it is not a loan or a bond. It is the money that citizens already pay, that can be utilized by Appleton City for the community. There will be several town hall informational meetings to further explain the Use Tax and answer any questions. All meetings are held at the Park Building at 6:00 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to attend at least one meeting. The meetings will be held: February 13, March 5 and March 19. The City Council will meet after the February 13 and March 19 meeting.
The voters of Appleton City are being asked to consider a Fire Protection Association Sales Tax to be on the April 2, 20224 ballot. This tax is a sales tax of ½ of 1% that will allow the Appleton City Fire Department to replace aging and obsolete equipment. The monies received will be designated ONLY for the replacement and maintenance of all equipment. This could include anything pertaining to the trucks, hoses, individual protective equipment, etc. as is needed by the Appleton City Fire Department to effectively and safely serve the citizens of Appleton City. Several of the Fire Department trucks are over 25 years of age, with maintenance becoming more intensive and costlier every year and they all need replacing.
With the upcoming 100 year celebration of the Appleton City Fire Department Doug Snodgrass is attempting to put together a list of Fire Chiefs over the 100 year span. The names and approximate years of the Chief status would be appreciated.
The 2024 Prom is April 13. In previous years, the AC Junior Class parents have provided an alcohol-free and drug-free all night celebration and fellowship for the junior and senior class students and their guests. This special celebration sends a clear message to every student that we care about their safety and future. They are asking for your sponsorship to continue this FREE after prom celebration. They not only are asking for cash donations but also sponsorships, items for prizes, etc. Your donation is tax deductible and will be recognized as such. If you would like to donate to the Prom All Nighter please leave your donation in the High School office, mail to Appleton City After-Prom Celebration, 408 W. 4th St. Appleton City, MO 64724 or arrange to be picked up at your location. They ask that all donations are made by Wednesday, March 1, 2024. This has been an extremely successful safe project for the ACHS prom goers. On behalf of the students, parents, and staff of ACHS, thank you for supporting this safe, drug and alcohol free alternative.
