Writing The Range: Author, Rancher To Speak At CWC Luncheon On April 16

Brenda Black will be the featured speaker at the Christian Women’s Connection luncheon on Tuesday, April 16. Brenda, who lives on a ranch in Deepwater, is the author of a devotional, “Were You Born in A Barn? Lessons from the Cow Lot,” and “I Stand,” which she wrote with gospel signer Pam Morgan, about Morgan’s dramatic recovery from a car wreck.
Brenda’s topic for the April 16 meeting: God is Good All The Time.
Brenda has a marketing firm, The Word’s Out, and created and hosted a radio show on Ag 1280 KDKD, “Country Corral Gal.” Raised in Harrisonville, where her family raised cattle and horses, she competed in junior and high school rodeos, including Barrel Racing and Breakaway Roping. In 1978, she was named Miss High School Rodeo Missouri, and in 1982, was the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association’s Miss Rodeo Missouri as well as Missouri School Rodeo Reserve All Around Cowgirl.
Brenda earned a masters in agricultural journalism from MU, and is the features editor and news writer for The Midwest Cattleman. She served as president of the Missouri CattleWomen’s Association from 2012 to 2014, and was honored in 2013 as the Missouri Cattle Woman of the Year, and also named the first Woman in Agriculture of the Year by the Missouri State Fair. She has written for the Missouri Beef Cattleman, Butler X Changer, and National CattleWomen, among other associations.
Brenda lives on a ranch with her spouse, Alan Black, pastor of Ohio Christian Church in Lowry City. They have two grown sons and four granddaughters.
The CWC luncheon starts at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in the fellowship hall of First Assembly of God Church, 1506 E. Ohio. Please make your reservation for the lunch by Friday, April 12, by calling Shirley Rucker, 417-321-0013. The cost of the lunch, catered by Melinda Dehn, is $14, and includes a hot entree, side dish, salad, dessert and drink.
The Christian Women’s Connection provides an opportunity for women to get together once a month for lunch and enjoy an entertaining, inspirational program. There are no membership requirements or dues, and all are welcome to attend.
At last month’s luncheon, Mike Town, the son of a missionary, talked about his family’s mission experiences. Mike, who owns Integrity Floors and makes Papa Town’s Comfrey Salve, also played several pieces on the violin. Tables were decorated with Easter lilies, which were the door prizes.
The February speaker, Scott Brooks, owner of Clinton Flower Shop, shared his experiences as a church musician, then sat down at the piano and took requests for favorite hymns.
Brenda Black, who has served as an auctioneer for CWC fundraisers, is known as a dynamic speaker who often include musical numbers in her presentations.
The Christian Women’s Connection started as part of Stonecroft Ministries, but now focuses on local speakers who share their stories and their talents. CWC luncheons are held on the third Tuesday of the month, February through December, starting at 11:45 a.m. and ending by 1:15 p.m. Park around the back of the church, at the intersection of Hwy. 13 and Ohio (7 South).
